They already gave us a hole in the ground on 99st. Thank god they never got started on that one on 104

I know the stated go/no go line for the Uptown was 75%. Everything saleable had to be sold for it to be definite. Up until that line TNP reserved the right to can the whole shebang.

They did do Quest without any presales. But I would assume that before they can even think about looking for more money for the Pearl, that the Quest will basically have to be paid for. So the first question is how are Quest's sales?

The article Cold posted a little while back said they were at about 50%.

I'd be willing to bet that if they'd waited another three months it never would have gone in the ground.

I don't know if I really like the building, but that will be a nice view. To me it looks like one side of a condo meets the other side of a separate condo.

/\ where do you get that idea? without government subsidization or tax breaks (a la 1960-70s) it isn't really feasible to build new rental units in Canada.

The form of the building is a great leg up - just look at all the rectangles surrounding it.

But man, white white white...Down with white!

At this moment, you can see the minor but noticable differences in the podium and colour schemes of The Peal when you compare the most recent image posted with whats on the first page.

I'm not crazy about the design but it's nice to see this get approved at 35 storeys. I shake my head at comments that it is "too tall" and "will cause traffic" - isn't that what you want downtown? Hope this goes ahead in the near term and sets a precident for the future - just have to hope the towers that follow raise the bar design wise.

Still leery about the design and street level.

Now it looks like a 35 story Venetian. I kinda liked the old rendering better, with all that blue glass:

^ Yeah, having it approved at 35 is a welcomed aspect indeed hey? I really hope Edmonton continues to push the maximum height currently available until they do away with that joke we call the muni..

It looks to have the same amount of glass as the original rendering to me, the newer one is just a tad more detailed

I like the fact this was approved by city council.

I also like the fact it will get rid of those ugly apartments that are already there too. Those things are a major eyesore if you ask me.

I think the actual proportion of glass is the same, but the whole tower now looks lighter and skinnier than originally proposed. The NE side seems about 1/3 narrower near the top. It's not nearly so monolithic. YAY!

Also extra bonus points for taking the "Tallest Residential" away from the ICON'T
