^Yup, all it will take is for them to secure a tenant. AFAIK, everything else is already taken care of.

Hmm. I'm not all against it, the simple contrast of the elipse/recatangle is a little differenent... I wonder if they had a better rendering to prove its potential to the EDC, just in consideration of what I read about its initial reception.

This will be quite the show.

Suggestion to all involved parties: A high level of design and innovation (sustainability et al) will be required to demonstrate to administration, Council and the residents that this isn't just another run of the mill development. It is in a location that can, and will, command a high $psf. So there are no excuses as to why the bar can't be raised here. Utlimately, you won't satisfy all and there will be many who will think that its too tall or that there are too many units, but if you come to the table with a product that 'wows' the overall audience, it will give you leverage.

If approved it will be interesting to see this and the 'Jasper Ski Lodge' compete...

City council has approved a new apartment building, one of the largest ever in Edmonton.

The 35 story tower - known as The Pearl - will be at Jasper Avenue and 119th street.

Councillor Jane Batty says they've agreed to push the envelope a bit even though there were complaints about it being too tall, and it would bring too much traffic. "It doesn't have that many more units in it that the zoning originally allowed for. What is different is that it's tall and it's thin. As a result it will allow for better air-view, space-view, and more blue sky for the community that is surrounding it."

Batty says access to parking will be off the lane in the back, which should handle any traffic concerns. (sj,blb)

I dunno, at least it's a step in the right direction, especially considering what's there now... I just hope the economy improves so this can actually get under construction in my lifetime.

^ what's for sale in Oliver right now ? Serenity ? There may be some units in Ill2, Uptown is basically sold out... there may be demand for this sooner rather than later.

Like the height. Hate the colors.

keep in mind that even in slower past economies, 2-3 projects were U/C or more.

Considering little new condo after Serenity in that area... I could see it going after Quest is completed.

It's decent infill. It doesn't have the 'wow' factor I would hope for with a 35-storey tower, but we certainly could have done worse.

Curious what's supposedly wrong with the podium/streetfront of this building (the rendering is too small for me to form an opinion)

The inventory downtown has been shrinking at a pretty decent rate. i wouldnt be surprised to see this one go ahead in 12-24 months
