I know it's retarded and frustrates me greatly how we're just overlooked like we're nothing to anybody. We would probably be very close to Calgary if somebody had a clue to add Edmonton to their list.

It's sad...we get as much inter/national attention as Oakland, Mississauga, Newark, Providence, Surrey, and Flagstaff! It's really pathetic if you ask me.

Calgary is tied for 5th.

Where do you think Edmonton would rank if it were evaluated? Similar to Calgary? As with the Mercer index, their reason for not evaluating Edmonton is that it is so similar to Calgary, therefore can we assume Edmonton could be in the top 10?

I'd say top 20 is possible.
how the ** can Calgary be 5th for the most livable community in the world. Good lord, i mean come on. Did they exlude every city in the world except calgary, vancouver and three other cities?
What is their criteria for being livable - livable in that you must have a car?
Calgary is not a city i would associate as a city with art, culture, urban design, walkable communities, ect... (things I would associate adding to quality of life)
I suppose if their criteria is crime, housing, air quality, education - then maybe, but to me, that does not make a city more "livable"

For example, ask someone who lives in Rome, or anywhere in Italy or France if they think Calgary (if they had visited calgary) is a livable city and where it should rank.

I think the dichotomy of "standard of living" and "quality of life" has confused the writers who make these so-called evaluations. Obviously they think if a city provides a high standard of living, it qualifies as a livable city.

would you say the same thing about spending enough money so that office and apartment floors and building lobbies and washrooms were handicap accessible? or accessible for mothers with strollers? or those with arthritis? maybe the river valley and some of our parks should be a bit more accessible and not less?

I think a funicular would be pretty cool, however, I think there are other things the money could be better spent on (no, not potholes...). Also, the escalators at SCC can shuttle folks, handicapped or otherwise, from Jasper Ave to the park. Perhaps that is impossible; Is SCC a public building?

So the wooden stairs are gone from the west side of the high level? Will they be back or is this permenent? Those were probably the busiest stairs for joggers. I can't see them completely getting rid of it so i'm assuming they's just rebuilding them or something? Its funny though cuz people are still using the path where the stairs used to be to run up and down the hill.

^ I'm under the impression that they're being rebuilt, the entire case was in pretty rough shape.

LMP is valuable to the quarters plan as well. The terminus of the "armature (sp)" ends at the top of bank of the rivervalley and the top of the funicular. Lets face it, while serving a limited function, the funicular is more of a novelty that mode of transportation. i think its good because it adds something very interesting to a key location in our City, part of an urban renewal to a larger area that needs it. The success of LMP is important to the overall success of the quarters.

so I've been working for a company undergoing organizational changes and long story short I've had the free time at work to read this thread from page 1.
I was going to wait until I got to the end to post but I couldn't resist replying to this.

cold how's the 09?! I bought my first stumpjumper (2001 fsr xc) in grade 8 and loved it so much that when it was stolen bought myself a new 2005 stumpjumper comp which I've also adored.

on a more building related note...a few pages back from here (ya a couple months ago so none of you probably remember) 240 mentioned the tricorp construction on 99th...and he said around 86 ave..I believe it's on 84th ave..as I live on 86th and am thanking the gods that monstrosity won't be on my block

There are multiple access points RIGHT NOW that can serve all needs. Sure a funnywasteofmoneycular would be cool but the cost if i recall was significant and the amount of use IMO would be very low.

How about take that money and invest it in improving the park, expanding it and its connections, and extending the river promenade?
