The funny thing is this is the bored section, and it is simply the nature of the beast. Also if their Yaletown location was only making 100 bucks a day then would it not have been cheeper to simply close the location, therefore they would only have to keep paying for the lease, and not also the employees and supplies? Also i love how the story goes into him trying to take his own life and the other guy getting the shingles, i think more must have been at play then simply this construction project. Also when the line is complete i hope the media keeps on reporting business stats of all the extra income coming into Cambie street and Yaletown businesses because of the train line. I do feel sympathy for this store but we honestly don't know their whole story and also this is needed project for the city.

Overheard some people saying how it would be longer now to get to and from Marpole and Richmond with an additional transfer.

And a fellow told me the planned B-Line along 41st Avenue will not be implemented with the opening of the Canada Line...Hope that doesn't mean everybody will cram onto the Broadway B-Line for East-West connections...

430 and 480 will both be making a little detour stopping at Bridgeport Station before continuing to the final destinations...I have the slight feeling that this will make the trip a bit longer.

The UBC 480 will maintain same service levels...

I was hoping the material would be online or in a pamphlet so it's easier to read over slowly...but that's not the case apparently.
I also dropped by Richmond Public Library this morning for the open house too. I was actually very underwhelmed by the changes they've made. I expected more. I thought they would implement the newest Richmond area transit plan by now, but the CMBC guy told me it has been delayed again and again and it won't be in effect until next year.

Actually the biggest change they've made this time is the 403's frequency when C-Line opens, with 8 min frequency in the morning rush hour, 12 min midday, 10 min afternoon rush and 15 min until 2100h, which is a HUGE improvement from even last year (this will benefit me tremendously). And the 403 will run the entire length of No.3 Rd, stopping at Richmond-Brighouse Stn and then continuing on to Bridgeport Stn.

they should have just closed that store

i don't see how the closing of one store affected all their stores

I cannot say I was a fan of their stores - they were kinda pretentious and dull as well as overpriced

Agreed, they should have closed the store. Life sucks, they happened to be next to where the station was being constructed. Bored or cut and cover, the disruption at their location would have been the same. It sucks, but in my opinion these guys have nothing to complain about compared to those on Cambie St.

Do they have any plans to increse the service levels on the #43 or the # 44 services to UBC because these routes shoould see significantly increased loads?

Notifying stores in the area as soon as possible would be a good idea as well.

It seems strange that they only had 4 months notice.

Making a decision on the UBC extension to go under 10th and notifying businesses in as far advance as possible would alleviate much of the blame.

Hindsight is 20/20, but breaking the lease and paying the penalty would've been a better decision, it would seem.

^ Well, there's no question that the project was rushed because of the Olympics....and as a result, boring was given up in favour of the faster cut and cover method.

As for 10th, there will still be cut and cover for the station pit at Sasamat.....unless they plan on mining that station.

yah and from the sounds of the article it sounds like they continued to stock that store with merchandise

why not make it the "clearance outlet" for the time period - making it an outlet would make that store more of a draw for customers to actually venture down there through the mayhem to get some better bargains

Hey do you guys think that the UBC extension should be an extension of the Canada Line instead of the M-Line ??

That doesn't work out... nor is it a good idea.

Canada Line = not enough capacity to handle the load of the Millennium Line... not to mention that it will be a huge crunch down between Broadway to Waterfront. We would also be missing a needed connection between Commercial Drive to Cambie.

And I don't want inTransitBC to be owning more =P Let another private company or TransLink own that portion of the M-Line

Haha, you forgot to mention that the Canada line is serving a North South corridor while the UBC line will be an East West corridor, making it a no brainer to be an extension of the already East West directional M Line.

You could branch the Canada Line off at Cambie and have one end going to Waterfront and the other to UBC, but that just wouldn't make any sense, as the majority of people travelling along Broadway/to UBC are coming from the east instead of south and there will be a B-line bus on 41st anyway.

The fella I was chatting with at the Bus Integration open house on Saturday said there won't be a B-Line along 41st with the Canada Line opening...but he did say frequency for buses on 41st will be increased.

It kind of seems to me Translink operates on a trial-and-error basis rather than really planning ahead...just letting the line open, see what happens, then make some minor changes.

And i forgot to mention this in my last post: he also said that they are confident the Canada Line will open earlier than anticipated...but they aren't going to make any announcements yet.

That's why Translink sucks. Who runs Translink? They need to be kept accountable to the public!!

it could be like the pacific northwest train extravaganza! with the new portland line, the seattle line and the vancouver line all opening (possibly) this summer

Well.. sometimes doing trial and error doesn't mean any worse than plan. Thing does change and unexpected things occurs pretty often. I think there is not many things that goes according to the plan. I bet none of the plan would predicted the #143 would run at every 12min with articulated bus after implementation u-pass (it was every 30min peak only service with 40ft bus before). And to get here, it took a few adjustments.

Another example, the service level on most of the shuttle routes in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam now are already meet or exceeding the level stated in "Evergreen LRT Bus Integration Plan for 2011".

You can't expect Translink to be dead on in predicting the travel patterns of buses. Translink has been great however at shifting service to where it's needed the most.

#125 BCIT/Patterson was a trial bus which has been pretty successful so far. I don't know if the two new Surrey routes are doing good or not but it's a step in the right direction for that underserved area.

The reason the new B-Line won't be up and running in time for the Canada Line opening is due to the fact it'll be opening ahead of schedule. I'm fairly confident the B-Line will be up in time for the begining of the fall semester. So that means the Canada Line will open before that....

They used to run a shuttle along United Blvd. from Braid to Coq. Centre... people were passed up full bus after full bus. Translink soon started using a 40-footer. On the next schedule change, they made it a full bus route, the 177.

With the success of the 125 Patterson - BCIT, perhaps they will consider running the 41 as a B-Line to Brentwood. If artics can't make the loop at Brentwood, they could run it only to BCIT... as the 25 is crush load in the mornings.

Right now, there is not much service on Moscrop... so it could continue from Joyce to Boundary, up Moscrop and down the back side of BCIT (Wayburne) which currently has No bus service (There's quite a bit of density behind BCIT in the form of townhouses), loop around via Canada Way and stop at the front of BCIT on its way back.

edit:
Here's a map of what i mean.

Hey the extended 41 in the form of a B-Line to BCIT or Brentwood sounds like a great idea!! Make sure you suggest that to Translink!!
