Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it Canada Post requires a 3 acre lot .. so that eliminates most lots downtown ... and I really doubt anyone wants a Canada Post sorting facility at the Forks. It really doesn't go with the area.

I was thinking somewhere along North Main. I am sure there is available land in the area that would be a benefit by adding some disposable income & government workers.

Letter to the editor in today's Freep:

Re: City's reaction to IKEA 'knee-jerk', Dec. 18.

The City of Winnipeg is attempting to create a business-friendly environment, and this is difficult to do when councillors like Jenny Gerbasi constantly oppose positive developments. She mentions a failure to consult the public in planning decisions. In fact, the opposite is true, as proposals in Winnipeg are studied to death, resulting in stagnation.

Gerbasi seems to oppose any development in the city. The people Gerbasi claims are being ignored are the ones who elect the municipal government to manage our city, and this includes development proposals. It is unecessary and time-consuming to hold public meetings every time a proposal is brought forth. Those not wanting to live in a progressive city (which Winnipeg is trying to become) should relocate to a rural setting.

Of course, Gerbasi should take comfort in knowing a small number of people in North Kildonan were able to chase away a developer willing to spend millions of dollars on much-needed apartments.

Has to be window dressing. It's nice and everything but clearly not professionally rendered.

-While it is hand-drawn and looks like it's from the 1950s, the Hydro building is in the background

-I hear that some stomach-churning projects are supposed to be coming down the pipes downtown

-Downtown is about to facing a parking crisis once Hydro employees start driving to work (as Trueviking's map shows)

^Hmmmm...good points.
I figured that at best it was probably what the building's owner would like to do with the place but probably never will. That's my guess anyway.

Do you think that this lot is large enough for a parkade?? Looks a little small, but I could be wrong.

I do expect to see a few new parkades going up in the next year or two. I am hoping the ground level will contain retail of some form.

Dead on!!! VanDal is also part of this anti-business tandum. Time to ship them out. Winnipeg would be much better off without them.

The news conference is set for 11 a.m. inside the Forks Market building at the Tower atrium.

I've been watching Council agendas about potential heritage listings/delistings. These are Exchange District buildings - hadn't heard anything about Hydro area stuff.

Hwy 15 (Dugald Rd) - 2 lanes westbound and 1 lane eastbound
Hwy 44 (Lockport) - 1 lane each way

Both have already been designed. Should start construction this year.
