I wish we had a choice, but a couple of our US suppliers insist on them. Fed-Ex is never a problem though, we always get our stuff 830 am avg. Glad they have planes that come straight to Edmonton.

We were supposed to have a "BIG" announcement about Port Alberta when a few of the YEG crowd went to China to discuss things.

All we hear these days is silence while the big announcements come out of Calgary.

Unfortunately I don't think Port Alberta is going anywhere right now or in the near future.

As with the proposed hotel that should have been built.

Well it sucks to hear that guys, hopefully something will come out soon. At least the dropping cost of oil will make itself felt in aviation fuel prices, so the airlines will hopefully have some capital to work with in the near future. But then again will anyone be lining up to fly?

Rocket is being alarmist as usual.

You only have to drive by EIA & see the massive amount of earth being moved around there. Port Alberta will happen, In fact it's happening right now.

I disagree...I don't think that Rocket is being alarmist at all...

The large amount of earth being moved to the east/southeast of the current ramp is part of the expanded ramp/new terminal. It has nothing to do with Port Alberta to my knowledge...Port Alberta is dedicated to the Southwest part of the airport, south of 12/30, and currently there is nothing happening there.....if I'm wrong please correct me. As a native Edmontonian I would love to see good things happen at CYEG however over the last year, when discussing Port Alberta, the Courtyard Marriot, there seems to be a lot of big talk with very little result...I feel Rockets frustration.

o.k. so it sounds like a foreign company is helping to build "Port Alberta". That's good news. It is actually happening. But why does all this have to be so secretive?

I'm sure there are some insiders in this thread with information that the rest of us don't know; however, typically this information isn't made public because nothing about it is yet concrete. Presenting this insider knowledge as a sure thing, as some on here are guilty of doing, is not really responsible when dealing with an industry as volatile as this one. Sure, speculate, hint that talks are going on with an international airline, but don't lead forumers on with assurances that mean nothing. How long has that big announcement been just around the corner now?

I am just amazed by the negativity in and around this place.

Dont be so upset about UPS expanding in YYC,Port Alberta has always been focused on the Asia-Pacific region as a launch point, Last time I checked UPS wasnt a Asian carrier...

I would comment but I just dont feel the need for a debate, I just really dont.

Now if you all want to continue being Debbie downer than have at it...

FYI for those interested the IL-76 flights have started and will continue into December.

^ Welcome to Edmonton that is why many people leave. The business attitude is usual that way....negative even when things are going well. Look at the last 5 years, all you ever heard was wait till the bust comes, look at all our pot holes. . .

Not sure who you talk to up here, but alot of the people our company does business with are very pleased with the situation here, no doom and gloom. I hope you dont take to heart what the pessimists and the paranoid posters say on this site. Either that or you have a severe hate-on for the city and thats just sad.
