Is Edmonton ever going to build another runway or are they just going to lengthen and widen the two they have?

Reason I ask is because our runways are nowhere close to A380 compatible are they?

If we ever want some of the bigger international flights it would make sense to upgrade them, no?

^I thought the runways were A380 capable. Its just the gates that cant handle them

Bigger international flights? The largest international passenger flights to/from Edmonton use the 767 and A330. The runways can already handle the An-225 for the largest possible cargo aircraft. I really don't think airlines are not coming to Edmonton because the runways are too short and i don't see Qantas, Emirates, Lufthansa or Singapore Airlines coming to YEG anytime soon with any aircraft let alone an A380.

This is a non-issue.

Wasn't the idea of a second parallel hammerhead planned for future expansion? I remember seeing somthing to that effect when the currect plans were originally released.

Hi,

This is a Canadian programme started initially at Ottawa Airport in conjuction with the RCMP, local police forces and the airport authorities. It has since spread to include Toronto, Calgary and I believe Vancouver has just started up.
Basically, it's members are aviation enthusiasts, be them spotters, photographers, whatever.

I was wondering if there is the demand in the Edmonton region to start up a chapter here? I understand we would need about 15 people to make it viable for the RCMP and EIA. I know the existing Watches have managed to arrange some airside tours, not only of airports, but some military bases as well.

Parallel? Where would it connect to the main terminal?

If the second hammer head went out towards the west side, you could have more of the building as airside capable (next to apron).

Is the plan to have all that extra space be passenger checkin, as it is somewhat along the access road, or to have people walk from the current areas in the terminal.

my guess as to what would happen after the current expansion is:
1) the original terminal arrivals level, where the horrible carrosels are, will expand eastwards and take up the arrivals road (under the departures road) creating a semi private area (like YVR);
2) a finger with bridges would be developed where the regional prop planes currently enplane/deplane;
3) a finger extension off towards the northwest (off original terminal)
4) the departures level (air canada side) will expand into the departures roadway, and a new 2nd level road will be build adjacent.

I dont think we'll see any parallel hammerhead in my lifetime. Then again, I am 87 years old

What ever happened to the original plans to expand the westjet wing? I hope the settle for a renovation at least... it is horrendous and always packed to say the least.

I believe they are packaging the North Terminal reno with the terminal expansion.

And no, it's not really that bad compared to some of the other US airports I've been too (see Terminal 2 LAS).

What you all forget is that when the terminal expansion completes, sections will no longer be one airline only. The central processing system for bags and others will allow for better utilization of the gates. Therefore, the "crowding" you see in one side vs another should be more readily distributed.

Then you must have been blind, T2 in LAS is terrible....
