Holy crap, the interior doesn't look anything like it used to. The owners did a great job. I'll have to check it out next time I'm in Regina.

Here it is with the new mural on the side as well as the LED sign on the front. Looks great and I've heard the food it outstanding. We're gonna try it out this weekend

The mural on Rooftops is stunning. Does anyone know what this restaurant would be on par with? Is it a more expensive place like Golfs or more midpriced?

Thanks Migs. Here's my first attempt. I found a few other angles on your blog that will allow me to show the whole tower, I'll render them as soon as I have a bit of time.

Keep in mind, I'm not an architect by any means, so I realize the building probably looks a little ugly and out of place

(not to mention I have no idea what the rumored tower might actually look like). The whole point is to give an idea of the building's placement, and how it will fill in the empty space.

here's what it looks like zoomed out, in case the above rendering doesn't make sense. (The curved part might make it look a little weird without any perspective)

The tower itself is based off another model I found a while ago

My apologies if I missed it already in this thread, but how big is this new building supposed to be? Were there any definites? And is it just government going in there or are they only taking a piece?

There has been no official word of a tower even being built there yet. The only reason why people know of the tower is because a couple of those business that have stores on this piece of land are not having their leases renewed past January, they have to find new locations. Global News, CTV and the Leaderpost had a news report about the businesses not having their leases renewed and the reasoning was for a potential "class A" office tower project. Having said all of that I'm sure we'll be hearing more quite soon.

My guess is that IF Regina would get a new tower, it wouldn't be more than 15 stories maximum; probably of similar height to what buildings are already in place. This almost seems paralell to those infamous rumors of Shell relocation their head office from Calgary to Regina, which was a complete crock.

We have buildings taller than 15 stories.

Does anyone know for sure what the spot undergoing renovations on Hamilton, next to the back alley beside Atlantis, is becoming? It looks great. It is nice to see some of our business owners renovating old buildings and turning them into something beautiful downtown!

Several pages back I was semi-mocking Beer Bros, but still recommending folks to give it a try and make up their own mind.

I went back this weekend, and it is much improved. They even had a beer that is not available anywhere else in Canada, and it is one of the best beers made in the US. We ate in the dining room, doesn't seem a whole lot different than when it was Alfredo's, but I like having the option of a quiet, more formal meal away from the lounge. The server was excellent and actually knew what he was talking about; we had a good discussion about some beers.

About the possible new building project, I would like to see a 10 story building with some interesting design elements. I've reasently been to New Zealand where there are many Art Deco buildings. Here's an example from Wellington the Hotel St. George.

What's great about buildings like this is how they make a CBD more colourful, and ecclectic. I don't expect a new building to have such small windows like the Hotel, it's likely to be mostly glass. What interests me is some of the detailing, colours and shapes. I'd really like to see the tower curve like the one above on the corner of Hamilton and 12th Ave. I hope the new tower can be set back after the first two or three floors as well, similar to the Canada Life buidling.

Oh, and has anyone heard what's to become of the old shell station sight on 23rd and Hillsdale St. ? A while back rumour was a Tim Hortons, but as of right now its just a sinking dirt pile.

The City zoning bylaw that you can review at Regina.ca has some pretty elaborate provisions regarding stepping back builidings on key streets downtown. One of the puposes is to prevent all day shadows.

Yes, and I'm not sure when those were put in place but I can say that I've read documents from the city from the mid-1980's fleashing out shadow and wind tunneling issues that didn't seem to be on anyones mind when the second McCallum-Hill tower was built. Purhaps the bylaws weren't implace in the early 90's but the planning ideas were certainly ignored. How strong could the planning department be in the face of a large construction project?
