Willowgrove is within the City. Stewie I believe is referencing a development in the RM that was proposed last year some time. I think it was also a golf course development, and included high rise condos.

Oh ok I thought it was on the city owned side of that intersection. Well that would be exciting if that was just outside of the city, maybe the city could annex it

Last year, I recall the RM proposing neighborhoods in the south...near Furdale...same development?

Ohhh, Highway 5 and 41...I only know the city is looking to expand the east sector residential...not familiar with the RMs plan...

Just heard on CTV that the Saskatoon Jazz Society will be announcing a new venue to fill the void left when The Bassment was closed, official statement sometime tomorrow.

I'd really love to see these pedestrian neighbourhoods developed, it would really reinforce Saskatoon's image as a green, sustainable city.

nice, i was actually just thinking of them as I walked down 2nd and saw this property for lease

I remember a few years ago someone had put on a few shows in that space and it would be a pretty ideal location (i.e. across from the KG & 2nd Ave Lofts) for a small pub/chill music venue.....though there was still a for lease sign on it, so I assume it would not be the place they are announcing today.

Interesting indeed, I think a new thread is required for this topic (I'll gather some of my postings from the Alberta Nuclear Powered Oilsands Development).

Being a student at the U of S I'm VERY happy to finally see place riel being renivated. It will be very nice to have enough space to actually move properly rather then shuffle from place to place. As well the exterior architecture is a great match with the surrounding buildings. I would really love to see an lrt connecting d/t and the university to start, I feel that would be a VERY popular route.

That was the old Saskatoon Book Store. I seem to remember some computer animation company occupying it for a few years, but I guess they hit the road.

I'm glad to see that retail space will be incorporated into the Capitol 4 office conversion. An ICR banner on the building's exterior is advertising office and retail space for lease in the building.

I hope that the finished product is interesting, it certainly has potential!

Reviving an old thread, just in case anyone's interested... I bought a book called "Saskatoon: A History in Photographs". In it I found a definitive statement and a photo that proves that the Capri Place and Empire Hotel are indeed the same building.

So does this mean that if a private developer bought this building they could restore it to its former glory *crosses fingers and HOPES THIS HAPPENS!!!!!*

that would be great but judging by what happened to the outside of the KG it makes you wonder if the brick could be saved.
