This is really exciting, I really love how the northeast is planned to develop with the large swale area cutting through the middle of it. I feel this will really add to the aesthetic and reinforce that Saskatoon is a green city.

Evergreen is the name of the neighbourhood of that depressing "documentary" called Radiant City. I used to live in Calgary's Evergreen and found it to be farrrrr more enjoyable than the clods in that movie. I'm not especially in favour of urban sprawl, but that documentary incorrectly portrays it. Or maybe I just refused to be a robot like the rest of the characters in that show.

Here's hoping Saskatoon's Evergreen will be more palatable, and not the subject of a bad documentary.

I'd like to see them implement a new street layout called the Fused Grid. Looks promising from what I've seen of it.

hmm the fused grid idea looks interesting, i hope the high dense area isn't another assembly line 3 story condo plan

also i found a map of the North East area and Evergreen seems kind of out of the city, it kinda seems weird to me

Wouldn't the new neighbourhoods be considered a fused grid or more the modern windy roads of suburbia?

Yeah, it's supposed to come in at 8.8 dwelling units per acre, the highest in the city (City Park is 8.5, Nutana is 7.5...then it goes down from there)....which should be good, if we're going to have more suburbs, they may as well have the potential to mix some commercial and higher density residential. Apparently this neighbourhood will likely also meed LEED Neighbourhood Standards, which is a great thing, hopefully it is successful and will be a model for other new neighbourhoods in town (or the densification/redevelopment of older neighbourhoods)

Densification and redevelopment certainly are some of my favourite words BUT I really like the look of the projected growth plan, it really balances out the city and makes it more radial. After the development of the additional neighbourhoods I'd love to see some major densifcation and redevelopment. I have a good feeling that d/t is going to cross Idylwyld into riversdale which will be exciting!

Does this higher density mean more cookie cutter houses packed in like sardines like the skinny rectangles in Stonebridge/Hamtpon Village or increased multi-dwelling "barracks" like Lakewood? Hopefully they have more visually appealing developments in mind.

I hope so too... the places you mentioned look like residential purgatory. Developers could learn a lesson from the Garrison Woods development in Calgary. Mixed land use, higher density, pedestrian friendly, commercial buildings with residential space on the upper floors... a much more efficient use of land and resources.

i drove by the statue by the traffic bridge, it addes bushes around it with woodchips over the dirt, looks alright(5 years from now it will be nice). i dont know what bushes were placed but i hope it was saskatoon berry bushes

Marketing packages should be out by the end of the month. The land base totalled approx 35,000 sq ft. Again im not sure on the type or or price of any of these condos, but hey some nice residential low on college will be a welcome site comparing to the houses that were there before

I agree, I feel that nuclear power is the worst form of sustainable energy, in fact it probably has worse pollution then a coal plant in the long run ie. heavy water. I feel that the way to create a sustainable urban environment is through innovation in building techniques, an example is the self powered building in Dubai, which has wind turbines placed horizontaly between each floor, it also powers the surrounding buildings. I feel placing buildings like these every few blocks is the key to solving power demand as well as reducing green house gases. Also switching out rows of windows with solar panels is another great option. Nuclear power should be our VERY LAST RESORT, I really don't care how many jobs it would create, it is ultimatley a disasterous attempt at being "green".

As well I love how the company justifies nuclear power with their emission free statements, most people don't realise the environmental consequences of a nuclear power plant, such as heavy water storage and possible clear cutting for heavy water stoarge, not to mention the increased risk of a meltdown and radiation which ultimatly destroys any ecosystem it's exposed to.
