It will be very interesting to see how talks go with LOT. I am pleased and pleasantly surprised by the fact that Edmonton Airports is actually sending someone to Poland to talk to LOT. It means much more than sending a letter or making a phone call.

There might be some headaches to LOT's return to YEG though. I have recently been reading that LOT's financial situation is not that great. Their low-cost subsidiary Centralwings just a couple of days ago slashed their schedule leaving people stranded at European airports. People on airliners.net are suggesting Centralwings will soon dissolve and is only being propped up by an infusion of cash from LOT. Their has also been a revolving door of CEO's in the last couple of years and the airline is still not privatised. On the bright side in a weird kind of way, people are also stating that bookings for LOT's new flights to China are extremely low. Perhaps they'll send a 762 this way once a week.

We YYC'ers are getting tired of "being patient" for the YEG announcement, plus we get distracted by all our new service annoucements!

What years did LOT operate into YEG?

It was a once a week (sometimes once every 2 weeks) charter flight to WAW. It started out as YEG-YYZ-WAW on an IL 62 then YEG-WAW non-stop on 762 and 763 ER's. You're looking at one of LOT's 763's at YEG on my avatar.

Thanks for the info, I had no idea that YEG was seeing a regular IL-62. That is just sweet!

If you're "patient" long enough, something is bound to happen.

The LOT flight from YEG was popular to the point that LOT was talking about making it a scheduled year-round flight back in the late 90's.The operated initally with IL-62's from the mid 80's then went to 767-200ER's up until Sept 11...

They have expressed interest in a return, this is just a push.YEG-WAW is good for Edmon''chucks'' ethnic population from Poland,Ukraine,Russia etc...

I am betting a 2009 return for LOT.

Betting aside, I thought Tuffy and Edmonchuck had promised to shock us with a big announcment at YEG. Where is that?

I can always say a big announcement is on the way at YYC and keep the date hidden and just say the next announcement was that "big" deal. Heck I promise there is a huge announcement at YYC that YEG is going to be extermely jealous of. LOL

If your speaking of Emirates, heck I am a little jealous...

Although Canada doesnt seem to be in the rush to open the bi-lateral anytime in the near future.

Some of the planned stuff actually will affect YYC,but that is all I can say.

That's it...it's "planned" not confirmed.

I am not talking about Emirates either, I was just saying I can say YYC folk like YEG folk can make bold statements which will come true eventually (ie next 12-36 mths)

yeah, I don't think anyone in Alberta should be sweating since both centres serve their purpose.

I am just saying I would like to hear about this announcement that we were supposed to be jealous of...or is it just more of you dreaming up there?

To me the huge announcement already came. A Lufthansa flight that arrives at Frankfurt early in the morning. I suggested this a long way back for YEG so people could connect through YEG or YYC to get to Frankfurt at different times. Oh well, YYC'ers i'm sure are happy.

HAHAHAHAHA, I love statements like this. It is like y'all know how to do deals large in scope...especially given the market crunch of late. Even the YYC deals you see are 20 years in the making.

Nah, huge announcements take 15 minutes and are written on the back of a napkin and everyone winks, shakes hands, and says "trust me". No Terms and Conditions are negotiated and everything is negotiated in public and on internet fourms. No sweating over last minute details neeeeever happens...

This isn't the US where banks just give their money away for "equity"..
