my home is 2.8 miles from downtown Salt Lake City. I'm using the intersection of South Temple and Main Street as the center of downtown, since the city's street numbering system starts there.

I used to work there south of there as well, but have recently changed jobs. The new commute is 3.2 miles to the west.

Right now, I'm 6.1 miles from downtown Coeur d'Alene, but by next year, I'll be one block from where Google says downtown is (although I consider downtown to be the Resort and the lakefront, Google puts it at the city hall at 7th and Front).

How is Chandler coming along? I havent been out that way in ages. I always liked that one little strip of Arizona Avenue by Dr AJ Chandler park and all of that. It seems like w/ some effort that could become a nice, cute little mini urban area.

From our current residence, 1.7 miles from the center of Downtown Denver.

From our new condo that's still under construction, 1.1 miles.

From our new condo to my office, 0.75 miles, which I plan on walking to every day (unless it's too cold, raining, or I'm feeling lazy... then it's a 3 minute bus ride).

Oak Park - 9 mi

About 9 miles, more exactly 1.7 mi to El, 9 Mi to loop, 2 blocks to work.

Working in SkyScrapers is nice, I can't see living in one with 4 kids.
I "own" a bungalow.

Downtown Chandler is coming along quite well. The city is doing a ton to re-facade some of the older buildings, "discourage" some day workers from hanging out on the streets, and create better landscaping and curb appeal to the downtown area. The new condos are looking great, and construction has begun to fill in many of the areas. Unfortunately, the welcome center to the south was filled with a Wal-Mart supercenter, Sam's club, and mini-mall crap. Still, the area has a long way to go before I would want to live there. With land running out in 3 to 5 years in Chandler, it is only a matter of time before the city will start modeling Tempe's growth plan.

I am excited for Downtown Ocotillo, which will have several 5-6 story office buildings and condos, along with several restaurants and small boutique stores, including the state's first Tesco.

"Downtown Ocotillo" is planned between Price and Dobson Roads and Queen Creek and Ocotillo Roads. It should break ground this summer. Currently, there are existing waterways and empty fields. The city is making it bicycle and walker friendly, which is quite uncommon for the Ocotillo- or any master-plan in the area, for that matter.

To get us back on track- "Downtown Ocotillo" will be approximately 22.8 miles southeast of 1 Washington in Downtown Phoenix

16.3 miles from Phoenix's core, but much closer to several village cores or "local downtowns":
5.6 miles to Desert Ridge (nice theater, plus heaven for chain restaurant-lovers like my parents)
3.0 miles to Paradise Valley Mall (the urban core of the "Village" I live in, much better shopping than ever-crowded Desert Ridge, plus covered parking [and a Transit Center])
4.2 miles to Kierland Commons, the upscale shopping/dining destination for NE Phoenix. I usually go to this Barnes and Noble.
These are all semi-urban places that I visit at least monthly. So I make the most of my suburban hades.

I don't think it's possible to live more than 20 miles from downtown in Las Vegas, unless you're in Pahrump, Boulder City, or Mt. Charleston. In pretty much the furthest development in Mountains Edge I'm only 17 miles away.

As the crow flies,

about 1.5 miles.

Being uphill, however, it takes only a few minutes to coast in on my bike.

(Highlands to downtown Denver)
