And dont be so negative.Thats seems to be one of our favorite traits in this city.For once look forward and not with the ''sure'' attitude.I understand reading some negative things can do this to a person.I will leave it alone.

The negativity comes from the fact many of the rumors regarding YEG on this forum never came to pass this year.

Let's hope you actually have some big news this time.

be patient. and be happy that he gave a teaser. nothing wrong with that. as for getting any more information, he made it clear that he cannot because of his job. give the guy a little respect.

easy on tuffyy. It is my fault this got brought up. tuffy truly cannot speak any more, and I certainly won't for similar reasons.

As for the "rumors" that didn't come true at YEG, again, easy on tuffyy too. FRA was an economic carrier decision. The irons that the EAA has in the fire are numerous, and they are handling them well. From more transborder, to a BILLION DOLLAR expansion some 5 years earlier than planned, to the work on Port Alberta, to lobbying Transport Canada and others for more routes, to lobbying for fair rents, to playing peacemaker in the regional transit issue, to god knows what else, they're busy as hell.

There are a few things on the cusp of coming true, and some things that are known as well as a unique item or 2 are coming together quickly.

you won't recognize YEG sooner than later.

(i would think they would at least recommend a closure of one runway)

Until planners and consultants get any indication from officials (City of Edmonton Council) that the ECCA will close prior to 2052, they will not include closing it in any planning documents.

Do you want the entire fight about the regional plan to be about the city centre airport? Because thats what it will be about if that was included in recommendations.

EXACTLY...leave YXD out of this for now....that debate, however tied, is something else entirely.

It is not the place of a mere civil servant to recommend an opposite path than their political masters, and the voters. (you should watch the old BBC show Yes Minister for a good look inside government) Civil servants are also very unlikely to recommend shrinking their personal empires, as the number of staff, sites, etc is how their prestige is measured, unlike pay based prestige in the private sector.

Direction on the matter of ECCA has to come from politicians.

Risking Lives on Dangerous Highways

Councillor Caterina draws on the article "QE2 Highway Badly Needs Upgrade" in the
December 28th, 2007, edition of The Edmonton Sun, as further evidence that service at
the City Centre Airport needs to be restored:

"The Stelmach government may consider knocking some sense into the complacent
Edmonton Airports Authority. To hopefully relieve some of the pressure on the QE2,
it should move to restore full, Airbus service out of the City Centre Airport.
Otherwise, the Queen's highway will continue being another of Alberta's death
freeways -a situation that is not acceptable to anyone."

Caterina says, "We need to look at revisiting this issue before more deaths occur on
the QE2, Hwy 63 to Fort McMurray and Hwy 43 to Grand Prairie"
"If we compare the Bullet-Train idea at a cost of 5 to 6 Billion or the cost of upgrading
the QE2 highway each way, there's no comparison."

"Only a fraction of the cost would be needed to restore the City Centre Airport to full
service." Says Councillor Caterina

"Combing rail and bus service would aid as well" advises Caterina
"Imagine a "Hub" that could be created at the Muni. Air linked with Via Rail next
door, Bus terminal on site, and LRT servicing both the City Centre Airport and
NAIT."

Councillor Caterina believes now is the time to take advantage of the boom.

Mr. Caterina is well on his way to receiving the idiot of the year award. Does this guy own any of the hotels next to the City Centre Airport? I can't figure out where his love for the City Centre Airport came from. It certainly wasn't there in any of his election speeches.

Ok, I've been thinking about this and have a few comments. First off no offence but I don't think YYC will be very shocked about any announcement regarding YEG short of AC or WJ abandoning YYC totally in favor of YEG or somehting along those lines.

That said I'm looking forward to the possible announcement. From your comments about 'the whole spoke thing' one could deduce that an airline is planning to ramp up service from YEG dramatically rather than use YEG as a spoke to feed traffic from YYC. That could only mean WJ or AC and I don't think WJ has the planes to increase lift out of YEG significantly. However AC has a fairly larger number of new planes being delivered (the new Embraer's) and needs somewhere to put them. It COULD be logical that they would use them in places like YEG to increase point to point service to cities they don't alreay serve or to increase frequency. Based on all this I will take a wild guess and say that AC may plan to increase service to YEG albeit it with smaller aircraft. Add in new destinations like IAH etc and increase frequency to places like YVR, YYZ, YOW, YUL etc.
