hehe, the irony of your post jaysfan is that it's impossible to say there are not public funds being spent to benefit the lake placid proposal....the fact that it is surrounded by a great park/public space paid for by the city/government is a defacto subsidy to them...so it's quite understandable to have some constraints/guides to the development.

Of course I do agree it's a good proposal (though question how acessible and 'public' the public space is) and agree people complain to much and (other) lefty hippie folk make foolish complaints....though I'm just as critical of the people who are development at all costs/tax cuts are the only way to success.

Not too many people here are development at all costs sort of people, but hey after twenty+ years of nothing but empty space along the river, I would gladly pay a tax increase to see something come along even Lake Placid.

But then we can wait another 20 years for the Perfect development to come along that satisfies everyone.

all there seems to be is some make shift wooden railings on top and from a far it looked like some dort of construction material.

There was strong smell of tar coming from the area so I guess one can assume they were doing some roof work before the white stuff flies.

Did anyone catch Global National this evening broadcast from here in Saskatoon? Their "Up Close" coverage on "Saskaboom" consisted of a big fat sum of 2 stories: one about the hot economy and real estate market (which briefly mentioned River Landing), and another, oddly enough about Saskatoon's "baby boom" that is accompanying our economic prosperity.

If anything, it was nice to watch a national newscast with the Bez and downtown as a backdrop and it's good to get that bit of national exposure. Let the eyes of the nation continue to look upon us

It's nice to see some pics of the interior. I'm so happy that this project went ahead (so successfully!) and will no doubt act as a catalyst for continued change in Caswell Hill. Maybe once the place is occupied to capacity with condo-dwellers they'll unite to pressure City Hall to get the bus barns out of the area!

accually the city is already planning to remove the bus station out of there sometime after 25th street is completed. it says so in the warehouse distract master plan, so i bet by spring we will here some more news of it leaving or a new building in its old place

^I'm aware of their plans to re-locate the bus barns in the long term but with all the pressing infrastructure needs throughout the city it may be the long, long term before that happens.. just hoping something will kick it into gear sooner rather than later.
And who knows when the 25th St. expansion will happen. Does anyone know of any recent announcements/timelines for that?

as far as i know they already started the 25th street epansion, i bet it will be done byt may next year

I know the stretch from the University bridge has been renovated. But I haven't heard of the actual extension from First Avenue thru to Idylwyld being started.

As for the bus barns I would say long term at least 5 years or more before they are gone.

nope, id give it a year or two...until at least they say they are going to tear them down in the near future.

Exactly which would mean a few years after that before the new one is completed and the old one torn down. In other words 5 years minimum.

once the new one is built the old lot will be for sale. i doubt the city will destroy it, they will put it for sale until someone buys the lot. so it could be possibly 1 month to who knows how long but the rate saskatoon is going probally less than 2 years for sure
