I spoke to one of the realtor's when I visited the building and he told me that the plan was for large balconies on the side of the building with wall removed. He stressed that these would be very large, so maybe they are putting in full height/length windows/glass doors along that wall?

He also said that they were adding another story to the building. I will try to clarify this soon.

This isn't particularly exciting (though it may have been a year or two ago), but Meridian has anounced a new project on their website. Murano City Homes. Looks like a redevelopment of an exisitng apartment building (on Clarence Ave) into condos, a la Opus. Kinda ho-hum new, I know.

Ho hum, but it does provide an answer to that mystery of 'Murano City Homes' appearing and disappearing from their website several months back. Glad we can file that one under solved.

i hope they dont add a floor to the rumely, i dont think that would be a very good idea.

i agree it would be hard to capture and make the extra floor blend on a building like the rumely i would perfer it on the side but who knows, it may look nice hopefully...

anyways i cant wait till all of the building renos are done so we can hopefully get a couple of proposals for some new towers. mabey even next summer

I saw the hole in the Rumley this weekend, looks to be about 90% of the buildings side. My guess would be large balconies and glass walls. They would have a great view of downtown from that angle. Has anyone heard anything about some of the rumoured proposals? Extra foods site? Holiday Inn?

^I do have one rumour I guess though it unfortunately has nothing to do with downtown. An article in Saturday's SP regarding Stoon's hotel market mentioned the possibility that a Four Points by Sheraton may be built in Stonebridge.
...Thoughts?

Some shots of the Rumely Building.

The "rumor" is that there will be a floor added which of course will be the Penthouse suite selling for a mere 1.5 million. Sounds like the south side has been excavated to make room for underground parking. The gaping holes on the south side wall as someone had mentioned will be balconies or floor to ceiling glass. Looks like a very unique project for Saskatoon.

it sounds like ur right macca. it it turns out as good as it sounds i am sure it will look amazing. alo good picts. i am sure for 1.5 mill they wont cheap out on the extra floor. this is a big reno for saskatoon and if it is accually as good as jerry makes it sound it will help add some extra class and style our downtown desparitly needs

also we need some riverlanding shots quickly before it snows its been about 2 months now since someone accually took pictures there

A Setback for KG Hotel Renovations

Fire crews were called to the old King George Hotel around ten to 4 yesterday (Tues).

It took over an hour to get a fire under control.

It started accidentally by construction crews who are renovating the building.

Wood shaving insulation in the roof didn't help matters as fire crews stayed on the scene til 8:30 making sure the blaze was out.

Damage, mostly to the roof, is pegged at about 50 thousand dollars.

No one was hurt.

Perhaps it will be a solar-powered, combined low-income and student housing, food bank and art gallery complex that honours Joni Mitchell, Gordie Howe, Tommy Douglas, the family farm, Louis Riel, Mohandas Gandhi and Tibor Feheregyhazi, has no carbon footprint and is built with recycled materials from the Gathercole Centre by union labour.

Or we could just put up a monument to whiners.

This guy has guts!! I totally agree with him. People need to understand how things work before suggesting such stupid things. Some people actually think that it is public funds being spent on the Lake Placid Preposal.

They better not tack another floor on or add a glass gazebo on top like I've seen in other places. I've seen too many Frankenbuildings in my lifetime already.

hehe, the irony of your post jaysfan is that it's impossible to say there are not public funds being spent to benefit the lake placid proposal....the fact that it is surrounded by a great park/public space paid for by the city/government is a defacto subsidy to them...so it's quite understandable to have some constraints/guides to the development.

Of course I do agree it's a good proposal (though question how acessible and 'public' the public space is) and agree people complain to much and (other) lefty hippie folk make foolish complaints....though I'm just as critical of the people who are development at all costs/tax cuts are the only way to success.
