good story on cbc radio this morning about the $1 billion expansion...it will be complete in 5 years, 200 additional stalls in the parkade, and I thought I heard 4000 surface parking spots...luxury hotel and conference centre will also be done at that time...

they also interviewed passengers who were departing/landing, most common comment was that the airport is / feels really small

What about my new hanger?!?Just kidding....We got the structure up now though, and we are shopping for another location on the field for a new corporate FBO to be built and completed by 2009.Our little competitor on the field is getting nervous from what I have seen...Also just to let you know NASA's enviromental testing division will be here for 2 weeks next summer with 4 aircraft (DC-8,P-3,G-4,and a Herc) to test ozone levels in nothern Canada.

Luxury Hotel? When did a Marriot Courtyard become luxury? Conference Centre, is that part of the hotel?

yeah, I've been interested to know if at the meeting they said anything about what the next step after this would be? Since they seemed to have junked their expansion plan. And what happened to the north expansion. Wasn't that supposed to be what was happening first (as in announced a couple months ago?)

Im curious to know if the plans involve making any changes to the current terminals as well. Having a Harveys, Restaurant, timmys and single security thru hardly seem adequate for the airports current size, let alone with this expansion. They did say more retail, restaurants etc, but how many non-airside?

I think the diagram is just of the new hammer head. It doesn't show anything else mentioned in the article ie parkade expansion, parking expansion.

What all does the current upgrades to the north terminal involve with WestJet? Just flow control?

I know that this new diagram replaces the orginal North Terminal expansion now due to unprecedented growth.

Horizon is pulling the evening flight out of YEG. Only 2x daily now.

^According to Horizon its only for the slower winter period.Add the fact that UA has moved to twice daily SFO and it pulls a little of the Connecting traffic through SEA to California.

It states "Emirates is coming" 29.10.07

Anyone know what this about?

Yep, fly Emirates will by flying out of YEG now. Not sure if they offer direct flights to Dubai... I would imagine they would pass through Calgary/Van first.

Emirates, one of the world’s most successful and fastest-growing international airlines, has announced its plans to start services from Toronto to Dubai, a first gateway for the airline in Canada starting Monday, October 29th, 2007.

The non-stop service between Toronto and Dubai is planned to operate three times a week. Emirates will fly its Boeing 777-300ER-ULR on the route, offering 354 seats in a three-class configuration with cargo capacity of 12 tonnes from Toronto to Dubai and six tonnes of cargo capacity from Dubai to Toronto.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group said: “Responding to market demand, the new route will provide a first direct link between Canada’s largest city and Dubai, providing also convenient, ongoing access to the Middle East, Africa and the South Asian Subcontinent. The Toronto-Dubai non-stop service will take just over 13 hours and the return journey will be 14 hours and 20 minutes – it will be the fastest way to Dubai from Toronto.

Flight timings for Emirates' Toronto-Dubai service starting Monday, October 29th, 2007. All times indicated are local.

^ doesn't look like they are coming to YEG at all . . . perhaps just a code-share to get you to YYZ??

Also, if YYZ is only going 3 times per week, there's no chance it'd be non-stop from YEG even once per week.
