Actually, it is kind of sad....how would she even know that Leduc existed...she'd have to get the locations from a map - and the maps at Environment Canada say Edmonton International.

And yes, it is a she, I've seen her a few times say Leduc International Airport.

Another great month at Edmonton International Airport!

Highlights

550,570 passengers reported (467,435 in July 2006)
The busiest month in EIA history (August 2006 was the previous record at 508,207, which was also the first month to exceed 500,000 passengers)

Growth%

Overall 17.8% (July) and 18.5% (YTD)
Domestic 14.8% (July) and 15.3% (YTD)
Transborder 14.4% (July) and 20.3% (YTD)
International 251.9% (July) and 87.3% (YTD)

In the transborder sector, there was strong year over year growth in movements to Las Vegas and Denver.

In the international sector, Air Canada’s London Heathrow daily flight accounts for more than half of all international passengers. There is also growth in year over year movements to London Gatwick and Puerto Vallarta.

17.8% is just HUGE.........the most significant # there IMO is the domestic....14.8% of the biggest number of travelers is just MASSIVE!

hello 6.2 million....hello 7+ next yr.

/\ Yep...this is unreal. I hope the folks at ERAA realize how quickly the terminal expansion and upgrades need to happen.

Expanded parkade and overflow parking will be at capacity the day it opens, wow!

They have not issued an RFP for Design Consultants for the Terminal Expansion (yet).

Oh, Im sure they do, but it takes time and planning. Nobody expected this kind of growth. I just hope they plan accordingly. Milney (sp) predicted double digit growth for at least 5 years. So the expansion should accommodate 10 mil pax IMO

Can anyone advise if the THREE (3) Stops in Calgary include YYC - and whether the TWO (2) Stopis in Edmonton exclude YEG? - or can identify the stops?

Here is the Article in todays Metro:http://metronews.ca/story_local.aspx?id=67790

Alberta bullet train backed
Report recommends commuter link between Edmonton and Calgary

toru hanai/reuters

A bullet train such as this N700 model in Japan may soon become a reality in Alberta. A provincial report has found that a high-speed rail link between Edmonton and Calgary is economically feasible.

A multibillion-dollar high-speed rail link between Edmonton and Calgary has taken a massive leap forward after a government report has determined there’s a viable market for the commuter train service.

The preliminary results of the study, conducted for the province by Alex Metcalf of Transportation Economics and Management Systems, found that a rail link is economically feasible.

“Our feeling is that there is a strong market for high-speed rail in Alberta,” Metcalf told Metro yesterday. “It’s quite clear that there is a real opportunity here.”

Metcalf, who conducted a similar study for the province in 1981, said the findings also prove that Alberta’s population has grown enough to generate revenues that will offset the multibillion-dollar price tag.

“There is certainly good opportunity for rail in the corridor,” he said. “Having waited 20 years, we can finally say the market is ready.”

The study sampled potential rail users by interviewing 5,000 motorists travelling on the Queen Elizabeth 2 highway.

Researchers also interviewed 1,000 air travellers and 700 bus users while recording vehicle traffic in four locations between Edmonton and Calgary.

Early data from the sample group proves that commuters are eager to use a bullet train rail link, even with the expected price of a transit fare, he said.

The final report, set to be released later this month, will reveal exact figures, but a Calgary-based high-speed rail company lobbying to take on the project has already confirmed it will charge $65 for a one-way ticket.

Bill Cruickshanks, president of Alberta High-Speed Rail, said the project could be completed in five years for a total cost of $2.2 billion.

“You have to look at this project and see that it’s going to be one of the building blocks for the future of the province,” he said.

The province has already purchased land for expected transit stops while Premier Ed Stelmach has voiced his full support for the rail link earlier this year by telling reporters that it’s an essential project.

“We have to. We have no choice. It will reduce emissions and it’s visionary,” he said.

Rail Details: The system would have three stops in Calgary, one stop in Red Deer and two stops in Edmonton for a total commuting time of 84 minutes.

Found the Map - http://www.albertahighspeedrail.com/routeMap.html

Stop at YYC and nothing showing at YEG. That should pretty much kill flights from YEG.

That map includes three stops in Edmonton as well. Hopefully we can lobby for a YEG stop over since it crosses right by YEG.

That map also says 2005 on it. However, if there is in fact no plan for a stop at YEG, I will be one pissed of Edmontonian. And why have a stop at SEC? Who the fuck came up with this route? I wonder if the southside stop was meant to be at YEG?

That's what I am thinking, otherwise, why would there be a blow-up of YEG with no stop?

It's great to plan for this now and implement in 30-40 years when we have the population to support it. Otherwise, this is still a pipe dream.

It's not a 2005 map. The company's name is . . . (2005) Ltd., showing that it was incorporated in 2005. That map might very well be current. It's a Calgary corporation, so I am sure that they won't have Edmontonians' best interests in mind when planning this.

My guess is that this train needs to stop in Edmonton (downtown), Edmonton (airport), Red Deer (downtown), Calgary (airport) and Calgary (downtown). There is no need to stop elsewhere. 95% of passengers for $65.00 will be businesspeople going from downtown to downtown.

"...across the High Level Bridge to the next station adjacent to the Grandin LRT Station (Government Centre). It is proposed to extend the line, by way of a new tunnel, to the CN OfficeTower"

30-40 years is right.

If the routes are EDM_YEG_RED_YYC_CAL
that is fair and like OilFan stated it will mainly be business travellers between the two cities. I think YYC and YEG will be okay.

Wow! I am really getting used to seeing numbers like this. The day we see these numbers drop back down under 10% - the growth is going to seem so small (even though at (for case of this example) 8% would still be impressive growth!)

It is truely incredible. Surprised that Alaska or United haven't increased loaded to the west coast. Did YEG contact Virgin America?

Ahh yeah thanks, you are right. I kinda skimmed over it before heading straight for the route map and all that stuck was 2005.
