I used YEG this past week out to YYZ and back. Here are some thoughts...

- Are we that under-staffed that it takes the luggage handlers 35 min. to get luggage on a carousel at 1 a.m. from a domestic, or is this normal?
- We need more security clearances. It's nothing but a mess.
- Why does it feel like AC has our hands tied when it comes to potential destination choices?

I've sat on the tarmac for 20minutes at YYZ waiting for crews to arrive at the gate. This and other delays happen in most airports.

I've actually found our security to be prompt and easy.

How was your trip to KW?

i have always found security here to be much better than YYZ and especially YVR.

baggage is about the same, but yeg is a little slower...partially because you have a short off plane to baggage walk.

I am flying to YYZ tomo and will comment on both soon.

^If your flying AC expect delays at most airports handled by actual AC ground staff as the company is understaffed and also suffers from the labour shortage.I have watched a AC A320 sit on the apron waiting for a parking spot for almost 20 minutes before at YEG.

Live All Year at Edmonton International Airport
NEWS RELEASE Aug. 1, 2007

Edmonton Festival City in a Box has arrived at Edmonton International Airport, and it’s packed full of entertainment for airport guests.

Greater Edmonton is proud to host over 30 festivals throughout the year, drawing many tourists to the area. However, festivals aren’t the only thing attracting people to the city. Edmonton was named the 2007 Cultural Capital of Canada, and FIFA brought world-class soccer to Commonwealth Stadium this summer.

Edmonton International decided to take part in the excitement, partnering with Edmonton Festival City in a Box, an Edmonton Tourism initiative supported by TransAlta, to develop a live theming program called Live All Year at Edmonton International Airport.

The program is designed to transform the normal airport experience into a fun, vibrant experience by bringing live performances, interactive activities, and artistic displays to the terminal to promote Edmonton’s many festivals and special events. For example, jugglers, stilt walkers and other entertainers were at EIA during the Street Performers Festival, and foosball tables were placed throughout the terminal to honour the FIFA U-20 Men’s World Soccer Championship.

“Edmonton International is essentially the front porch to our city and region,” says Ken Fiske, Vice President, Tourism, Events and Motion Pictures, Edmonton Economic Development Corporation, speaking about Edmonton International’s involvement with Festival City in a Box.

“The live performance program at the International is a great way to showcase Edmonton’s talent – what a tremendous first impression for our guests.”

As Edmonton continues to grow, the airport is getting busier. An estimated 10 million people will walk through the airport’s doors this year, whether they are coming, going, picking-up or dropping-off. Passengers are spending more time at EIA to ensure they clear security and make their flights on time. The live theming will keep airport customers entertained, and give them a sampling of the Edmonton festival scene and the region’s energetic culture.

Don’t worry; the fun won’t end anytime soon. Expect Live All Year at Edmonton International Airport to last beyond 2007.

I might be able to provide some insight, I work for AC ground in Calgary. There is a chance that you flew in an Embraer or a A319. In that case it takes a lot longer to offload all the luggage because the luggage is not in containers, and the compartments are so small that it is very difficult to offload the luggage very fast at all. And we are very short staffed and unfortunately many of the staff we do have are lazy and won't help because of their seniority (damn union), many times I have had to work on those planes with a 3 man crew, standard crew should be 4 and even then it takes a long time to offload those types of aircraft. I have even had to do 319's with only 2 people. That takes a good 45 minutes if it's full. Especially if you came in at 1am there are easily enough people to do it quickly but even if they have 3 crews on at that time inevitably two of the crews will be sitting around doing nothing, because they are not assigned to that flight, so very poor time and manpower management by the operation control centre is also a factor

^The 777 visit to YEG has been cancelled,not being rescheduled either.YYC gets the 777 for the month then it goes on the YUL-CDG route for good.Anybody see the AeroMexico 757 at YEG? It comes in every week until the end of August.

Heard on the Weather network last night the announcer saying "Leduc International Airport" while discussing the storms in the area.

A couple of things to report and two questions.

Firstly, when did AC start codesharing on the Delta flights?? I could not believe my eyes when I was at the airport in late June, waiting for a friend to get through customs to see that the Delta flight was also listed as an AC flight. It infuriates me. They should be offering their own service from YEG to many destinations, not just codeshare.

Secondly, can you get any type of cab but the Airport Taxis to pick you up from the airport and take you into town?

Now, for some comments. In mid-July, I flew YEG-YUL (enroute to LHR - could not get on the YEG-LHR flight as it was completely booked) on the E190. Beautiful aircraft, and comfortable. I hope to see additional routes out of YEG picked up by AC upon delivery of more of these. By the way, the flight to YUL was packed.

From YUL to LHR, I was lucky enough to sit Y class in a refurbished 767. Lie-flat suites. They were quite nice, and it was great to get the chance to use one. A couple of issues. If you are flying with someone, you cannot really talk to them. Secondly, if you are over 6 ft. tall, like me, you don't really fit into the bed (once the seat is lying flat). Otherwise, though, the refurbishing that they have done is great. The best part about it was that I believe they re-did the air filtering. It wasn't stuffy at all.

On the way home, I had to stop in YYZ for a couple of days, and flew an E190 from YYZ to YEG. Again, the flight was packed. Upon arrival at YEG, it took our bags about 45 minutes to come off of the aircraft.

At the airport this evening....wow do I feel sorry for anyone flying out to London Heathrow tonight. Ive seen the 767 that has been parked out there other times, but tonight was pure VINTAGE 1988 767, yikes...if I saw that parked at the gate, Id start wondering why I didnt take a nice 777 on BA...

BTW..having been delayed in San Fran this afternoon on my way to YEG, and thus missing my connecting flight (out of a city im ashamed to mention), every flight to Edmonton from everywhere was soooold out. They tried every which way to fly me home. Bad for me, but great for YEG!
