Just heard through word of mouth. I believe it to be true, but only time will tell I suppose.

Would be nice if they re-did the siding and made the parking lot look a little friendlier. Would also be neat if they extended the south side to Sask Drive (although not possible considering that the raillines are in the way.)



Migs, what's the response for ReginaGuy's renderings over at riderville? I'd like to see what they are saying, but obviously I don't have a membership!

VERY positive. Lots of discussion about sightlines, concessions, location, parking, etc. Mostly everyone over never knew about the proposed moving of the container yard to the outskirts of the city. Lots of positive feedback and likely a few more members are going to be on their way over here soon.

- Definitely feel that the old Superstore lot would be a terrific place for a new stadium, with the open end of the bowl facing towards the downtown. This would create an effect similar to the baseball stadium in Pittsburgh, which is a first-rate ballpark to watch a game in. I just love it.

- Definitely need a roof.

Football may or may not be meant to be played outdoors - but it's easier to make use of the stadium in January for a Rolling Stones concert (or a truck pull, or whatever) and thus make it economically feasible - if it has a roof.

Besides Tim Horton's & lovely beige big box stores, the credit unions seem to be providing the new contemporary architecture to Regina. I've only seen a few of the branches, but which have gotten favourable reviews? Affinity? TCU? Conexus?

The Old Taylor Field Location could be converted back to a natural grass field build a small clubhouse and stadium for the Prairie Fire, and other rugby clubs. and an adjacent baseball stadium and attract a minor league team.
The current Rugby Club could be taken over by touch football or soccer and Rambler Park could be torn down and the space could be ised for softball, soccer, lacrosse, etc.

I think, we have a good start to actually reinvigorating downtown.

The baseball stadium Winnipeg has is perfect, looks like it would be a great atmosphere on a warm summer evening. Anything built would obviously be preferred downtown. Any open lots for a baseball stadium? Eep, now we are really getting ahead of ourselves.

Provincial Capital Commission Proposed
April 25, 2007
The largest sit down dinner ever held at Ipsco Place. Saskatchewan Party leader Brad Wall held his annual dinner speech in Regina and he has a new plan for the capital city.

Wall is talking of a provincial capital commission in Regina, like the one in Victoria.

It would comprise stakeholders from council, tourism and business to get together to build on existing tourism sites and develop the untapped historical and artistic potential in the city.

New developments for Regina could include an outdoor market and political museum.

Regina's mayor would certainly be pleased of the potential dollars a capital commission would mean to the city.

Pat Fiacco says it's already being done in Canada and is of benefit to each capital city.

There has been a push for Wascana Centre Authority to become such a commission legislation to create such a body was dropped several years ago.

Maybe that could go in the railyard area? I think it's far more likely than moving TF at this point...the tracks won't likely be moved, so maybe build around a baseball stadium with a pedestrian bridge to connect the area to downtown? Then those who want passenger rail reintroduced in the city (not a bad idea, in my mind...though trains are expensive!) can keep their dreams alive...

The old Superstore area is turned into a movie theatre/arcade complex (similar to Galaxy...maybe on a bigger scale). Keep the surface parking in that area but spruce it up with some landscaping-trees, maybe a bit of grass, some planters. A baseball stadium just to the east of the Superstore lot since it's the widest area with a small parkade in there (maybe between the stadium and Superstore, maybe behind the stadium?) Understated so as not to draw attention to it, but not ugly, for the same reason! Maybe a cool signature tower to the east of that which would be surrounded by a small promenade, maybe a fountain and some greenspace. A couple of residential/office towers closer to Broad St. Maybe a restaurant in there somewhere (possibly in the tower?) The entire area would be greenspace, connected by pathways...like a park. It's quite a large area, so maybe two pedestrian bridges? One closer to Albert St. for sure, and one maybe just east of the centre? That would work especially well if the Casino did end up building a hotel at the Post Office site, as it would put the downtown side of one of the bridges right near the hotel site. I don't have any idea about measurements so I don't know that any of this would even fit there! It's fun to make stuff up, though!

Hey everyone, I think that if the railyard project actually happend it would be very exciting but what would we end up with on that site? It kind of reminds me of the River Landing in S'toon, just because of the possibility of all that open land by downtown. Really, there's so many things that could go in and make a huge impact, and I'm just dreaming here, some of these are just ideas. I really like some of the ideas like the new football stadium, movie theatre, farmers market building. How about a larger indoor water park (ocean dome anyone? ), move the central library and/or move the regina gardens to a larger space from the 4th ave location, or a greek style outdoor amphitheatre, and because the car is king... underground parking.

I too, am curious what the return of those ads are?

In Edmonton, I've seen the Saskatchewan advertisements in the LRT, buses, newspapers, and even large advertisement boards on Jasper ave.

It seems like an aggressive strategy.
