Relocation is the best option but not necessary to achieve such a goal. Kamloops, BC has built a cable stayed suspension foot bridge over their yards to connect the river/park, arena and area to the downtown. It seems to be working, I have been told.

Something like that would have an positive effect on foot traffic and growing the two together.

That's also something to consider. Either way, something should be done.

Well I worked it out that sinking the stadium would require an excavation of at least 200,000 m cubed of soil, which is a lot.

But on the other hand, because of Regina's expansive soil, the foundation of the stadium would need to be anchored 5-10 m below the ground surface to the glacial till below to prevent shifting. So it might even make financial sense to simply just sink the entire stadium ~10 meters

why not dig a big hole and build a foundation and build the stadium inside that and have a roof with skylights ect......

Mostly because of cost, but also, as I said earlier, I prefer the atmosphere of an open-air stadium on a warm summer day

A roof would be nice for winter/concert use though

a suggestion for the stadium so that people who come can have a nice visit..is to add a "sports museum" or "hall of fame" that type of thing. It could attract more people to the downtown. ... lol maybe i dont know im not to good with ideas

Yeeg, I took your suggestion to heart and reduced the seating slightly by removing half of the upper-bowl seating.

After you said it looked closer to a capacity of 60,000, I re-checked my areas and sure enough, it was actually about 55,000!

Here's the newer version with a 35,000 capacity. I might still need to cut some seating somewhere to get it closer to 30,000

hey, anyone know how deifenbaker drive is going to intersect with pasqua? the road network plan is a couple years old and a bit deceiving... but if the road follows right along the north end of that new subdivision (north of superstore) the intersection will be really close to the highway 11 on/off-ramps... just curious... anyone work for the road department? or have inside info?

I only see one thing wrong with it... It's missing the Rams logo in one endzone.

Looks good...The only other problem I could see is that if you do cut the fixed seating back to 30,000, the overall area it takes would inhibit any room for temp seating...Thus we wont have the 50,000 seats that is normally required to host the GC...But then again, Ivor Wynne only had 43,000 or so when they last hosted...If Regina can host annual events such as the Stones on a regular basis, I dont see the problem with having a larger seating capacity...In fact, it would give Regina a better chance to take summer concerts away from Saskatoon...

Someone else mentioned the location of the stadium relative to the railyards...I would think that with the same layout of the current stadium (in order minimize crosswinds), it would need to be placed closer to Albert Street as the present tracks get further south of Dewdney as you get closer to Albert...Plus it would look cool as you drive by on Albert...
