Oh well. Whatever makes you feel better.
Now if Saskatoon can just snag the Riders away from Regina, we'll have it all

If Saskatoon had a stadium I think it would be a real posibility. It is the largest city in the province and is also growing at a faster rate. Ten years down the road the spread will likely be larger.. and people in toontown will want to have some of the prefered amenities of the largest city.

Then again I could be wrong. Maybe they could share the team.... that would probibly guarentee sell outs every game.

For now I think Saskatoon would make a great Northern League city. You just need a stadium and an owner.

Actually the name Fat Geese should be saved if Regina ever gets a franchise. I mean the city is filled with those things and if you don't have bread you're in BIG trouble.

I can only shake my head.

Nothing against Saskatoon but it's just not going to happen. You make it seem as if the population difference is huge. As I've said many times, Saskatoon doesn't have a city of 40,000 people just down the road. Not to mention the population distribution of Saskatchewan is concentrated in the southern half of the province.

The history is in Regina and I can't really see a Board of Directors from Regina approving to move the team. They would lose many fans from Regina, which is the largest chunk of their fanbase.

As for splitting the games. Look at the piece of junk they play out of now. They don't have the money to operate two facilities.

I certainly hope you're right! We've all been waiting for this explosion for awhile.. as it stands right now basically all activity is happening on the city's edges. Im hopeful though that some major developments downtown and along the river are in store for us... it just has to happen eventually.

As a Reginan and a Rider fan, I need to get this off my chest

No. The riders would never move to Saskatoon. Regina was larger than Saskatoon for the majority of the century, it wouldn't make any sense to pack up the team and move just because Saskatoon has been slightly bigger for the last 15-20 years.

The team was founded in Regina, by Reginans, and biggest of all, the citizens of Regina own the team!

Also, you have to consider that Regina has Moose Jaw, population 30,000 only 30 minutes away.

And lastly, a lot of fans would be very pissed off if the team somehow moved, so I just don't see it happening.

Maybe if saskatoon keeps growing they'll be able to support their own team in the future, but the Riders stay with us

OK, let's get a few things straight here. The RIDERS don't belong to Regina. They belong to the whole province. The last time I checked, they were called the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Further more, Saskatoon also has North Battleford and Prince Albert close by. The team plays in Regina, but without Saskatoon, North Battleford and P.A. it would not servive!
I know alot of people that drive to Regina to watch the games.

In all fairness, I don't think it would be fair for the Riders to be moved away from Regina. There is just no reason. Too many people would feel hurt, and probably stop supporting the team. The riders should stay in Regina! I just wish that someday the Riders could get a new Stadium. I really do hate Taylor Field, it has to be one of the oooooogliest stadiums out there in North America. The stupid NDP gov't should flip the bill,.............we are after all in a booom period!

Well, had I known the Riders were so close to the hearts of Reginans I would have instead suggested the more outrageous idea of crown corporations moving to Saskatoon so we can privatize them

Would Regina even excist without crown corporations?
I honestly don't mind Regina. Both Saskatoon and Regina have their plus and minuses. I love Saskatoon because I've lived here most of my life, but Regina aint so bad. But Saskatoon just is more pretty because of the river.

That would be a good outcome.

Too bad Saskatoon and Regina wern't one city .. you'd have something closer to the size of Winnipeg. Well maybe not Winnipeg, but you'd still have a much larger market to draw investment than either has today individually. That would be cool.... but I guess the economy developed that way becuase the province needed to two cities to support the agriculture base.

In todays world though having two small cities probibly makes for a less effective economy, each splitting the pie .. as one has established itself as a business centre and the other a govrnment centre. Since a great deal of the agriculture business is now run from distant cities like Calgary, Winnipeg and even Chicago and Minniapolis, the old economic needs have changed. I guess the farmers still need a place to buy equipment, farming goods and supplies.

Just imagine if there was one city though.. with two universities .. and twice the downtown, air services, potencial pro sports, more ability to attract major private investments which require a certain critical mass... ect ect.

Hah, we went months without getting into a Regina vs Saskatoon...but its finally happened.

Would Saskatoon exist without the university?

I've lived in both cities, and I am from neither. Saskatoon has its pros and as does Regina. I don't agree that either is prettier than the other, but that's all just a matter of opinion.

In a cruel twist of fate...

$7.3M development project planned on north Broadway
Mike Nowatzki, The Forum
Published Wednesday, April 11, 2007

Two vacant restaurant buildings in north Fargo will be razed to make way for a $7.3 million building project.

The development, called Meridian on Broadway, will consist of a four-story, L-shaped building with 38 condo units, 1,200 square feet of commercial space and underground parking...

Affinity Credit Union

The new Affinity Credit Union on 1st Avenue and 22nd Street appears to be finished. Does anyone else think that this building is butt-ugly?

I was wondering if they were planning on doing any finish work on the parking garage. As is, it looks like total shit.

As for the MOB, great news for Fargo - our loss, their gain.. I can just picture Victoria Neufeld now, basking in all her glory. That's what really pisses me off.

Affinity CU

I'm happy to see something built on the Affinity site, just wish it was a little more polished. The parkade looks awful & I can't believe they didn't try disguising some of it, esp since they put that screen on the top to try hiding mech work. The screen doesn't work, but that's another point.

I find it similar in design to the TCU Place addition (fin walls clad in metal with curtain wall inbetween) but not nearly as well done.

It looks like they've begun demolition on the Legion building (at least, the old neon sign has been torn off, leaving a big hole). The lesson: it may be too expensive to build in our city, but it's never too expensive to demo. I guess the economy is always just right for additional surface parking.

I'm just having fun here, I'm not a Saskatoon over Regina sort of person, or vice versa. Saskatoon and Regina both have individual strengths, and one can argue marginally for one or the other. Overall, I don't see anything that stands out between them in the context of Saskatchewan.
