If Pat Fiacco is doing such a wonderful job, please tell me 5 ideas that he has come up with, of his own, that have improved the city.
To start, I Love Regina-not original, not his and a waste of money.Boosterism does not count.

As for Fat Cat Pat reading here, maybe he can copy some more policy because he has pretty much introduced his opponents platform since winning.

Hmmmm?
You need to get laid....and then read a book.

Precisely. I am so sick of people bitching just for the sake of bitching. Fiacco has done an incredible job for this city and anyone who denies that is either slow upstairs or has an agenda. What is the name of the guy that got squashed by Mayor Pat in the last election???......wouldn't surprise me if 'Quimby' is his middle name.

That's not really fair. I think Holmes had some great ideas, including his interest in revitalizing the core.

Fiacco has introduced several of Holmes' ideas- Advisory Comm on Access, NC urban reserve, campaign finance, Youth advisory comm , snow removal and a good offer to the unions for the next contract.

Once again, name me 5 things that Fiacco has done and are original ideas that has benefited Regina. Look behind the smoke and mirrors and see who is running the grand wizard of oz.

C'mon now, you can do that can't you.
5 IDEAS from Fiacco

PS- Shredding magazines because you disagree is so 1940s Germany.

Now had I been using destruction of books as a metaphor then Godwinned would be appropriate but the fact that these magazines were actually fed through a wood chipper with His Worship Mayor Pat Fiacco leading the way.
What event in history would you prefer I reference ?

I'm going to have to agree with birthgob. "1940s Germany" is a fairly direct reference to Nazism/Hitler. Sad, because most of what Mayor Quimby has said is spot-on.

Actually, Godwin's law would apply had I said, " Germans in the 1940s evil and they burned books. Pat Fiacco burns books, he must be evil "

What I said was, " Burning books is bad , Pat Fiacco burned books and so did the Germans in the 1940s."

It doesn't meet the fallacy requirements in Goodwin's Law.
Make sense ?

Some people have agendas...and that's fine. But it really bugs me when people can't view things from other angles. When people start spewing crap all from one position, it shows a clear and present bias. They are not thinking objectively, they are attempting to smear, scab, etc...whatever their agenda might be.

Is Fiacco the be all and end all...no. Would he beat the devil at a game of chess...no. Quimby clearly has an agenda. It has been a clear smear of Fiacco. He has not presented anything from another angle, and has pinned everything wrong with this city on Fiacco's shoulders...yet given him credit for nothing.

City Hall sure is a big building for a single man to be operating in, making all the decisions himself...such power he must have! I had no idea Heaven had an "I Love Regina" sign in front of it.

And who cares where the ideas come from. If Fiacco steals the best ideas from every city around the world...are we really that much worse off?

What are you talking about ?

Do you even know that role and responsibility of city council and mayor within it ?

Of course, he and his classmates at the ivory tower have everything to do with the majority of events and development in this city. KonaFest just spontaneously appeared and Waskimo disappeared ?

Should I quote you the acts that state their powers ?

Fiacco is not at fault, all this stuff, like tearing buildings down, rotten inner city w. further cuts to funding, roads falling apart, increased water bills, Mosaic Stadium, should I go on. All influenced or directed by the mayor or his office.

The fact is saying Mayor Fiacco isn't responsible for local events is like saying Bush isn't responsible for events in Iraq. He is the CEO of the city and the buck stops there.

Ah yes, the ad hominem fallacy.
Next.

Nobody can 5 policies that our Mayor and council have enacted that have been of a benefit to the city ?

Not surprising.

He doesn't though or he would have abandoned his love of big box developments.

Well and clearly, Regina is the only city in North America facing this issue.

Christ...

Time to find a new hobby Larry.

Yes, so that is a good reason not do anything. Do some research see how other cities are dealing with it and the zoning rules enacted. You have the audacity say I have said nothing constructive, yet all you do is offer excuses and nay say. Read about it, see the cities that are growing economically and it isn't because they have 3 Home Depots and 5 Wal-Marts on the edge of the city.
C'mon now, give 5 reason to support Fiacco.

I didn't say it's a reason not to do anything. But if you're going to say Fiacco is terrible because of big box sprawl...then so is every other mayor on this continent.

Anyways, I'm done with this site. I found this site and starting coming to it to learn about new developments in this fine city...things to be excited about. Not to get into an argument on the merits of our mayor based mostly on ignorance.

This thread has gone to hell...so I'm out.

That's a cop out and not answer.
What ignorance do speak about ?
The knowledge that exciting developments do not have to be big box stores and tearing done historic buildings for parking lots.
I'm still open to swung on this, if you or anyone is willing to tell 5 policies that city council has enacted that has improved life in Regina. That is too much to ask or does it upset your delicate sense of boosterism.

Your attitude is the reason that Regina is in trouble, anyone with a critical eye is labelled negative. Then their opinions impact is reduced. The Leader-Post does it, Fiacco does it and your doing it.

5 things, shouldn't be that hard. Should it ?

I think you've made your voice heard. The point of this thread isn't really to discuss politics, and I'd hate to see people leave because of it.

So, perhaps you could join us and we could get this thread back on track.
