When facts state otherwise, the fact is the development model is at least a decade old. Major urban areas all over the nation and world have discarded it. It ends up be too costly and hard to manage and provide adequate services, like clean water and sewage removal (both important health issues). Why must we make the same errors ?
We are not slaves to consumer choice, we actually are consumer choice and government policy, and businesses, can alter ones choices. The ones we need to attract to Regina are not interested in the basic single family dwellings produced by the current policies. They want good libraries, great schools, museums and art galleries. The modern urban professional wants the best amenities not a house with a double garage in front. We are driving these creative people away and not attracting any here with the current councils, since it beholden to developers and those that profit from it.
Read Florida and Jacobs, you will get an understanding of the proper way to run a city.

I didn't contradict myself, I said that the mayor doesn't decide where development happens, which is 100% true.
Do you actually think Mayor Fiacco sits down with his advisors and says, "I have decided that we will build 10,000 new homes in the southwest, thus completely destroying downtown! Muahahaha".
Also, I don't know what world you're living in. The hard fact is that +90% of Canadians
want to live in a detatched house with a double car garage on 3 acres of land.
In recent years, the number of people wanting to live downtown
has increased, but still, the vast majority of average people want to live in suburbia
want proof? Just look at
any city!! Detatched houses with 2-car garages are getting built because people want detatched houses with 2-car garages. People don't buy homes based on an imaginary evil "government policy" forcing them to live in suburbia. PEOPLE BUY THE HOME THEY
WANT
there are plenty of places for an urban professional to live in Regina, there have been a ton of condo units being built downtown in recent years, and there are lots of urban professionals living in the warehouse district.
If everyone read skyscraperpage.com and wanted to live in Condo towers, then Regina would be covered in Condo towers, but this isn't the case
I know its a long post, and I'm trying to type fast because I'm anxious to get to Regina for the weekend (in moose jaw right now), but my point is that if you think Regina is too suburban (which it sn't, for its size, IMO), bitch about Canadian culture, not city council
the mayor and city council have
no say in what type of homes people chose to live in
