This is the experimental passenger aeroplane that I’m referencing, seen before it was stupidly sold off to the Japanese (just before the war)!

Douglas DC4(E) in flight..

sourced original staff/crew signed print (my possession).

Something’s seriously wrong with that photo..the faces of the kids on the sidewalk are so contorted they look like Killer Klowns From Outter Space!

e_r, looks like it's Grand's addresses around 440. Same palm tree:

Sorry, no. It reads Ed Kennedy. There’s about 67 signatures visible but I don’t see any Shannon. Of course, the mat might be concealing more that can’t be read now. Probably been thirty years since it was put into the frame and that’s sealed. (One is dated 2-2-39.)

WWII airplanes are another one of my hobbies. It's hard to be 100% certain, but that sure as heck looks like a DC-4E.

What a rare event if the photograph actually captured it in flight!

Thanks for checking. :-) My dad worked at Douglas (Santa Monica) from about 1937-44, so he was there during that photo's time period, and that cursive E looked real familiar! Close but no cigar apparently. Thanks again!

I thought it might have been taken with prior knowledge of the flight, but it looks like two 🞵🞵🞵🞵 Whittington 1939 photos may be taken on the same day and are focusing on the Belasco Theater (judging from the front banner and the white topped car in the parking lot corner). They were posted with the links to USC (functioning) in here: https://losangelestheatres.blogspot.com/2018/08/belasco-early-exterior-views.html

So it probably was some real luck involved.

Going by Google Street View, the building was still there in April 2016 but gone by April 2017, since when it has been a vacant lot (I didn't think it would be very edifying to include a picture of a vacant lot).

odinthor is correct.

Here's the Santa Barbara Greyhound bus station in 2015.

The bus station still had the lettering and sign in 2008.

It was a great piece of Americana.... Why wasn't it saved?..
