noirish Los Angeles v2.0

This thread is a continuation of the OG noirish Los Angeles thread that needs to be closed because it's too large of a thread and is overwhelming SSP's database.

I always felt this was a 'noir' city, especially in the winter when the warm Santa Ana winds swept through the basin.

I lived on Hancock between Santa Monica Blvd. and Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.
Amazingly, the small bungalow where I lived is still there.

Enough said:
Here are the photographs of Los Angeles.
I will continue posting them over the next several months.

Please feel free to add any old L.A. photos you might have.

Amusingly, when I searched YouTube for "whore opening credits" it offered me the opening credits of 'TJ Hooker'.

Thanks for the correction, Hoss.

So it appears that noirish Los Angeles was the culprit in slowing down Skyscrapergage's database.

Stay loyal noirishers and let's venture into 2.0 land together.

I just figured out who China Blue is.

.................................................................................Whore (1991)

China Blue is Kathleen Turner's character's name in Ken Russell's Crimes of Passion (1984)

Crimes of Passion appears to have alot of Los Angeles locations as well. (I'm mostly unfamiliar with the movie)

Take for instance.

NLA 2.0!

I tried searching something on NLA 2.0 and so one has to go to NLA 1.0 for searches there, it seems.

Sadly, closing the original thread has deprived us of the ability to quote and edit any of the posts within it. I seem to remember that it was heading for 55 million views, but that info has also gone. I guess we're a classic example of being a victim of our own success!

ETA. I realized that I had another NLA tab open from approximately 15 hours ago, so here are the most recent stats from the original thread that I have. The first number is replies and the second is views.

The address is given here as 810 S. Los Angeles Street. It’s a bit difficult to suss out the exact location, as the parking lot in the movie has been displaced by a new building.

Everything covered in blue is now gone:

The stuff bordered with blue, below, is new (constructed after the movie was shot). The red building is the red building from the movie, and the building bordered in green is the other building from the movie - if you zoom in on Google Maps, the windows have the same distinctive window frames.

As the cars pull out of the former parking lot, you can see South Los Angeles street in the background:

This link says the location was 700 Banning Street. I could not find an exact match in my collection of Banning Street photos. However I did find the following photo on Flickr, described as “Just off of Alameda Street”, which is where Banning Street was located, and which appears to show the same street:

Can anyone confirm if these photos actually show BANNING street?

Time lapse.

Ken Russell's WHORE (1991)

What Building is Underconstruction? - Subterranean Street? - Real Door / Fake Entrance?

In Sequential Order.

Run Theresa!

PoorTheresa goes down a flight of steps & comes out here.

She turns the corner & it's spooky and primitive.

She's still running.

It becomes less spooky and primitive.

Where the heck are we?

Theresa hides behind massive pillar. . .

Hmm, what is that bright orange?

Well, supposedly it's a bar and strip joint - that's why the entrance is all dolled up.

She goes into a REAL DOOR surrounded by a FAKE Neo-Classical entrance. (at least I think it's fake)

Find me that operational door.

The street (some call it “tunnel”) is Grand Lower, which runs below S Grand Ave between (approximately) 2nd and 4th.

From Grand Ave, viewing the opening to Lower Grand:

Lower Grand as seen from Grand Ave::

Lower Grand itself:

Lower Grand is in a ton of movies, like The Terminator and Repo Man.

I don’t know the location of the Neo-Classical door, but here is the location of the following scene:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Two+Ca..._ep=EgoyMDI2MDEyMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

The building then under construction is Two California Plaza.

I think the fake door was built in front of this real door. It has a vent above the door, a loading bay beyond with doors that go about 3/4 of the way to the roof and a circular emblem on the wall. Also, the gaps in the roof match up. The image is from the 2014 GSV.

EXCELLENT, HossC and Scott Charles.

And Hoss gets a somewhat rare worship emoji - - - > < - - - for finding the actual door!

A moody mystery location that looks like it's right out out of a film noir.

The seller says it's Lankershim, but where on Lankershim?

We're looking north on the 1600 block of Cahuenga Boulevard. Barker Allen Electric (on the right) was at 1642, but I think the only surviving buildings are at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard.
