Mystery vantage point / Long Beach

Where were these three people standing when they got their photo taken?

eBay

It seems awfully high.

Behind them is The Breakers, an old hotel that became a Senior living facility. I did an internship there for Occupational therapy in the 90's

Gotten a lot of practice reading the scribble on old postcards in the past.

An interesting (menu) listing for Pig Stand Drive-ins which 8ncluded the Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea location : https://www.ebay.com/itm/267444216093

JHGraham posted about California Pig Stands and had an address around 1933 of 1101 North La Brea (West Hollywood) which is the NW corner at Santa Monica just east of the United Artists Studio complex at Formosa. But this menu seems to indicate a name change and dropped the Vine Street building (which had been sold). So far there seem to be no good photos of the La Brea operation beyond the front signage. It might creep into some of those aerials. Anyone got a further Oink about this place?

No info provided for this photo off of jalopyjournal.com....I'm guessing the year at about 1940....I ran a couple of CD's and phone books around that year but had no luck finding the business.

The former Brooklyn Theater at 2524 E. Brooklyn Ave (now Cesar Chavez Ave) in Boyle Heights. It's a vacant lot now.

The least cropped version google could find was on pinterest here: https://uk.pinterest.com/harleyjmiles/old-hotrod-scene/

Not much help, but here’s the whole…

sourced pinterest brit as above.

Of course, now we know it’s a dead ending side street on a hillside roadway. Very similar to the later location of a Mobil station on Western above Franklin across from Immaculate Heart, but these buildings blow that idea away.

Unless I managed to overlook it, the one thing we haven't brought into evidence here concerning the corner of North Figueroa and Sunset is the (1906) Sanborn map's contribution:

Detail from Sanborn 1906 plate 326; https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:...lifornia,_1906,_Volume_3,_Plate_0326.jpg

I have reoriented it so that North (or at least Los Angeles "North") is at the top. Our area of concern is at bottom center.

By the way, the overall link to the Sanborn maps is: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Categ..._Angeles,_Los_Angeles_County,_California
