LDS Church @ 153 W Adams

This church stood from 1913 to 1959.

Jan 26, 1913, Los Angeles Times @ Newspapers.com

This is from 1921; I like the top of the tower:

University of Utah

There is an August 4, 1941, building permit to "remodel bldg tower."

This photo is from 1957, showing the remodeled tower and the east side of the building:

Here's a phenomenal photograph of a young couple at West Lake Park. (today's MacArthur Park)

eBay

It provides a good view of the elaborate roof of the pavilion. (and a couple of oil wells)

In re: Lindomar Lodge:

It was located at the corner of PCH and Sunset. First mention in the Los Angeles Times was in 1953, and most of the subsequent mentions were modest announcements of dinners, celebrations, and such taking place there.

Last mention was in 1963:

Lwize! I had to hear it, so I looked that up on youtube. I did not know that Java was the name of that, because after a couple notes I recognized it instantly!

I found this matchbook which includes a map, the address (17381 Sunset Boulevard) and a drawing of the buildings.

Larger images at www.jstor.org

Looking at Historic aerials, the buildings survived until sometime between 1980 and 1985. They're seen below in a aerial from 1971.

A friend of mine's dad walked up to the ticket window on game day and got in for $10, I believe.
Times were different.

Magic Mountain taking shape in 1970.

A sky-needle of sorts could be built in downtown L.A. as a tourist attraction. (or would it be considered tacky?)

I'd design it.

Surely we would have seen it by now.

Two related photos here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/178193922393

Looks like maybe an observation car that lost the rear platform area. I’m counting around ten arched windows to the one side but it could have been divided into two sections right about where the side door had been added for the diner. It was certainly match a pre-WWI Pullman which would have been sidelined from services during the goverment control years. They would have been replaced in the ‘20’s with the newer Standard Steel cars so it could well have been a “sold off” body without the metal components and trucks.

All from eBay.

I've found some clues that say it is in Ventura, California..

AND if I have the right railcar today it's a Kick Boxing Studio. ..(I'll look through my notes again)

Back on page 72, unless I’m nutz, we were looking east on Macy toward this structure which may have been off Lyon?

Maps seem to indicated the triangular structure (seen at the beginning of the reel) should be where Avila Street and Clara Street (?) converge and run into Macy Street. There is a tower car (possibly on a truck here rather than a trolley) in the road and a worker seems to be moving about where the crossover switches are in the center..so maybe some kind of maintenance project is happening out of view below the camera? We can see Macy run way off toward the river crossing.
