It was indeed a Vic Tanny Gym, opened in 1957.

By the time of 3 Nuts filming however the gym at 5126 Lankershim was not under the Tanny banner anymore.

A 1963 article below this headline mentions the change and outlines the demise of the Vic Tanny chain.

I just realized it is actually Stan’s Drive-in at Sunset & Virgil. One of those “B” flicks (Hot Rod stuff) from 1958 has two cars race down the road passing right by the studio buildings with the restaurant behind them.

WE Chop Suey and Velma's Beauty Salon / Velma's Barber Shop photo is on eBay today. WE shows up in the 1933 City Directory at 5064 West Adams. I wonder what "WE" means and the significance of the airplane logo?

The building on Sunset with the glass elevator also shows up in "I Love You, Alice B. Toklas," which I may have mentioned before. Peter Sellers shares the elevator with Herb "Hi, it's me, Stan" Edelman.

Info says: Released in late 1968 (and 1969/1971 in some markets), Jackie DeShannon’s Laurel Canyon is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter album capturing the LA music scene.

A note says: L.A. is a track from Jackie's album, made into one of the very earliest music videos.

At the 47 second mark, Jackie is riding up in this elevator with shots from both inside and outside.

I saw Phantom of the Paradise at the United Artists' theater in Pasadena! I see that it also played at the Eagle Rock Plaza, and eventually it was billed with "Rocky Horror" at Northridge's Peppertree #3. During a re-release in spring '76 it was at the Cinerama Dome.
