Repair Café giving broken items a second chance in Saskatoon

By Brittany Caffet
CKOM
Apr 9, 2026

In many homes around Saskatchewan, there’s a closet or drawer filled with “I’ll fix it someday” items.

A wobbly lamp, a jacket missing a button, a toaster or cell phone charger that only works if you jiggle the cord just right.

Things that could likely be repaired, if only someone had the time, the tools or the know-how.

The Gather Local Market that failed, forcing Saskatoon city hall to take it over a year ago, is now thriving, a city council committee heard Wednesday.

The city administration has been running the Gather Local Market for nearly a year after the organization that signed a lease in 2024 to run the city-owned former site of the Saskatoon Farmers' Market failed to live up to the terms.

The first thing you notice about this gym is what’s missing.

No rows of treadmills.

No clanking dumbbells.

No mirrors lined with people counting reps.

Coach’s Corner

What is going in the old Coach’s Corner location?? I saw video of large planters and a camper being lifted onto the rooftop patio.

New restaurants show faith in 'beautiful' downtown Saskatoon

By Phil Tank
CBC News
May 03, 2026

Hasib Karimi migrated to Canada as a refugee from Afghanistan, so concerns about crime and social disorder downtown fail to faze the Saskatoon restaurateur.

Karimi, 34, and his younger cousin, Aman Khan, opened ChaChos Tacos a month ago in a spot along 22nd Street that was once occupied by a Subway outlet, which moved next door.

"We've seen some rough times," Karimi said of life as a refugee. "I've been through way worse than this."

The outside of TOT Café in Saskatoon’s Stonebridge neighbourhood may be unassuming, surrounded by box stores and chain establishments. Cohen's

Looks like Cohen's has been leased. Anyone know it's future? It is a cornerstone to 20th, sp good to see it is being filled. I imagine still a restaurant... haven't been able to find any info about it yet.

More positive street life news.... I see Paradox Pizza on Broadway and Cafe del Rey downtown are installing new parking lane patios this year.

With good news like Cohen's leasing, the Lemon Rooftop bar, and some quality new entrants to the dining scene the past couple years like Pique, Casa Capicola, Chacho's, Bowl of Heaven, I think the rhetoric around Downtown's demise from homelessness and social disorder are wildly overblown. There are issues to be sure, but it feels like we're turning a corner.

I still wish we could have the old Rook & Raven back...

Couldn't agree more. Try finding a parking spot downtown in the evening. Most times, not easy. There is no better sign of a vibrant downtown than this, imo.
