First half of north Albert Ring Road bridge demolition starts tomorrow night. There were 2 excavators on site when I drove past there yesterday. I've got 3 batteries plus and external charger to work with this year which will let me stick around longer if something interesting is happening. Last year I had 2 batteries and could only charge them in the drone. The new drone has better low light performance than the one I had last year.

Isn't it the second half of the project?

The one this year screws up my commute home to the north west. I hate the Lewvan with a passion so it looks like I'll be cutting through Argyle Park for a few months. Anything's better than the Lewvan.

Yes, but the demolition is occurring over two weekends.

They got the first half of the bridge down a lot faster than last year, maybe they worked all last night.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGS9Y9mkw6Y

The long term care building had the first section of second floor poured. Lots of pours left, I might eventually get a video of one of them. I think they do them on Friday mornings so it can sit over the weekend, though things might move faster once they don't need to cover and heat the pours.

Thank you for posting. Are you able to show a picture of the final product?

They're just replacing the bridge to match the one next to it that they did last year. It's going to look just like that.

I've not once seen a rendering of it. This document contains floor plans and a cross section. https://www.regina.ca/export/sites/Regin...nt/PL202400020_Rec_20240416_Decision.pdf The wings will be 5 stories with floors 2-5 being identical. The central part will have a 6th floor for mechanical. Overall it should look similar in shape to Sask Poly, but a bit over half the height, and two of the opposing wings offset from each other.

It’s very odd that there’s no rendering of this project or how much it’s going to cost. Thank you.

Two pile drillers at the Costco site now. If I had to guess April 1st seems like a nice round date for start of construction. The number of permits for the new apartment area on the south side of Westerra is up to 41. Continuing to insulate the new Harbour Landing school. The part of the building on the north end is being heated, so they might be pouring the concrete floors.

I just noticed the "Now open" sign on the new building on Pinkie Road, which explains why there were no cars at the old Omagakii location when I took off from there. A few weeks ago the person who filled my propane tank at the Coop gas station said there is a Walmart going in at the old Omagakii site.

Regina Specialized Long-Term Care Home Project

The Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement is introducing a new series to highlight infrastructure projects across the province.

The Monthly Construction Update will feature a selection of the 20 major and 134 additional construction projects in Saskatchewan, offering an inside look at the work underway, the teams collaborating on them and how the projects will benefit people and communities in the province.

"The Monthly Construction Update offers timely insight into important infrastructure investments occurring in our province," SaskBuilds and Procurement Minister Sean Wilson said. "This new initiative demonstrates the progress and purpose these projects deliver to protect communities throughout Saskatchewan."

To kick off the series, we are showcasing a large health infrastructure project already underway - the Regina Specialized Long-Term Care facility (RSLTC). The project is a multi-story building on government-owned land located south of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Regina campus.

The facility will include 240 specialized long-term care beds, serving seniors and residents with complex long-term care needs such as dementia, cognitive and acquired brain injuries and other complex behavioural needs.

It's some sort of design build project where they are allowed to design it as they go. The Government just gave them minimum specs and the DB team gets a lot of leeway. I recall the original budget seemed extremely cheap to me.

EDIT: I looked into this further. The Province allocated $20 million in 2024, but that was not for the whole project. Site prep and foundation was a separate contract and was done before the full design was completed. I recall thinking that $20 million for 240 beds seemed really cheap. It turns out the full cost is $56 million or $244,000/bed. Seems expensive, but that is what things cost around here these days.
