George Gordon Developments owns land near where the data centre’s site will be.

CEO Don Ross says the company continues to diversify and may be looking to expand in collaboration with Bell.

“We have 577 acres of land that we want to develop and we can develop that land in partnership with Bell, as neighbors, and with the city of Regina as neighbors,” he added. “We’re looking at long term employment and training opportunities for our citizens in Regina and surrounding areas.”

The First Nation says it has signed memorandums of understanding with Bell, but wouldn’t disclose full details about what it entailed.

Construction on AI data centre near Regina could start this spring: Moe

Once finished, the multi-phase campus is expected to help Canada claim sovereignty of its data and support various economic sectors that are increasingly reliant on AI technology, said Moe, who was joined for the announcement by Bell Canada president/CEO Mirko Bibic on Monday at Innovation Place in Regina.

According to details provided at the event, the data centre is set for construction as soon as this spring on a 160-acre parcel in the Rural Municipality of Sherwood, just south of Regina. It will make up 300 megawatts (MW) of the communications company’s 800-MW plan to build an AI network across Canada.
portion of the facility will be available for use by government, industry and researchers, according to promotional materials provided Monday.

The materials note that Bell Canada has already secured American-based AI companies Cerebras and CoreWeave as tenants to supply computing hardware in the first phase of the facility.
Moe said the province was approached by other companies regarding AI data projects but decided to move forward with Bell Canada because of the estimated $12 billion in economic value.

“They’re willing to bring not only those services to Saskatchewan companies, the data sovereignty to us as Canadians, but to bring those careers right here to the Regina and surrounding area,” Moe told media following the official announcement.
According to details provided at the event, the $13 billion

George Gordon First Nation excited for Bell Canada partnership on AI data centre

By Gillian Massie

The new 300-megawatt artificial intelligence (AI) data centre being built outside of Regina will feature an agreement with a First Nation nearby.

George Gordon First Nation signed a partnership with Bell Canada to focus on “Indigenous procurement participation and workforce development.”
Maybe they can make a new flower conservatory with all the steam coming off this project. The university would be a great spot for it

I went out to the Grand Coulee truck stop for the first time this year. Work just starting on the building. I was going to take a few panoramas but the wind was too strong and drone automatically stops the image collection process if it gets bumped around.

Moe still enthused over AI data centre announcement
Premier Scott Moe opens Canada’s Farm Show, points to massive amount of investment in the province.
We're traditionally a provider of developing the natural resources that we have, mining, oil production, and, of course, agriculture. This is new for our province, and I think it's significant in diversifying our jobs and our opportunity as Saskatchewan and Regina residents."

Moe said there will be no direct provincial money in the data centre itself. However, he pointed to the high-paying careers in the AI space that are directly and indirectly associated with the $12-billion investment.

Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski also spoke further to reporters about the AI data centre project. A key aspect of the project that he pointed to was that there would be no municipal water required for the project, something many area residents were concerned about.

"We heard very clearly that some of the concerns around water usage and those were addressed," Bachynski said. "I know that there's going to be more information, technical information coming out to mitigate other concerns around noise and other areas that people may have some questions about. But overall, from the city's perspective on the data centre, we're seeing a massive investment close to our community. We see partnerships that are flourishing between our educational institutions in terms of the U of (Regina) and Sask Polytech, as well as partnerships with George Gordon First Nation just outside the city. For me, that announcement was a very historic moment in our province to move into a sector that is, frankly, on the forefront of the world stage."

It's actually $1.7 billion. $12 billion was the estimate of all the economic activity it will create over its lifetime. Also, it is nowhere close to the world's largest. Meta, Google, Microsoft and others are building 10GW+ campuses in Texas and elsewhere in the U.S. These are US$100B and 33 times bigger than Bell's.

Shawn Semple now says he will send north of $30 million on his venue at REAL. This is really going to be something.

Later today he will be telling you that the Government's massive deficit is not from over-spending, but rather due to "investments".

A really nice bar in Regina might cost $1 million to fit out. This is 30 times that. he previously said he would spend $20 million.

I am with you, I hope it ends up being all they say its going to be.
But you have to completely blind, especially in light of recent "news" to not get that many times in the past and many times in the future, Corporations lie and overpromise, Governments lie and overpromise. Heck even on this forum we have discussed Developers lie and overpromise.
So just hope for the best but don't be surprised if something takes a turn for the worse. Just common sense.

I agree that the propaganda from governments is getting out of control. Corporations are not far behind. The difference here is it is not our money paying for this, so it its a bust, we still win.

I tried out the hyperlapse mode on the drone to see if it might be useful for the bridge demolition work at the end of next week. The minimum amount of speed up (50x +) is far too fast for that kind of work. That mode would also be better for distance shots, not close ups. It will be good for speeding up very slow things like the crane moving around at the LTC, clouds moving and the Intermobil container yard in the east.

The initial pitch went from being conveniently located to a substation, to SaskEnergy building a high pressure natural gas line to the site for them to run their own power plant.

They say there’s gonna be so much steam created by this and they’re gonna use it to heat large buildings on the first nation’s land so this is gonna be a great news for Regina. Hopefully they can get some greenhouses out there. There’s gonna be a lot more happening than that.
