It's entirely possible that the team will finish in the bottom 5, and thus have the ability to draft a top 5 pick for only the second time in franchise history. I can honestly see the Jets missing the playoffs for the remainder of the decade as they are forced to spend a few years drafting some quality pics, like we did from 2011-15.
there are really no Canadian teams that look like they will be beating down the door, and becoming a power house. Maybe Ottawa has the best chance. All I know is I would not bet on any Canadian team finally bringing home the cup for the remainder of the decade.
As for the Olympics, Hockey Canada needs an overhaul. There were too many questionable choices on the team, and too many glaring omissions that could ahve put us over the top. Leaving out Scheifele when he is having arguably his best year, or a 20 year old Bedard, who is finally showing signs that he will be the elite player in the NHL going into the 2030s, was a horrible mistake.
One would think that we learned from 1998, when Clarke chose to add Zaumner for some unknown reason, or 2006 when Gretzky chose to put Bertuzzi and Draper on the team. I guess not...Too much politics in the selection process. How hard is it to pick the best player in the country?
