Does this make any sense or is there a better method?

Of course, you can
manually recreate a quoted post if it’s really necessary, but it takes more than a few steps and is a royal
pain in the @$$:

Judging by the microphone I’d say this is from Betty White’s radio days. The location isn’t mentioned but it sure looks like Los Angeles.

According to my Google searches and ChatGPT, the forum administrator
CAN make locked threads quotable again. It’s just toggling a setting:
Quote:
|
Admin Control Panel → vBulletin Options → Message Posting and Editing Options → Allow Quotes In Locked Threads (set to Yes)
|
Once that is done, it restores the QUOTE buttons in the original
LOCKED thread. You click on this button in a locked post you wish to quote:
… then you
shut that window and go back to the NEW version of the thread. When you hit REPLY in the new thread, this option will appear at the bottom of your posting interface:
You then hit
QUOTE THIS POST AS WELL, and the quote from the locked thread will appear in your posting window, just like we’re all used to.
The setting is easily changed, takes less than a minute, but most forum admins I know don’t like to mess around under the forum’s hood. I’ve had admin access on a forum or two, and I actually
like to do this kind of stuff… but in my experience, I am in the minority.
(I just realized I have NO idea who the Admin is here… heck, I’ve never even looked at another thread here besides this one!)
