I saw the notice of permit hearings for the two giant towers on Granville by Pacific Centre recently. A 42 story and a 35 story I believe.

That is really going to change the area with that many more people living right in the core.

Speaking of that area: https://www.shapeyourcity.ca/1105-1109-granville-st

112 hotel rooms, 176 rental units, heritage facade preservation, retail, second story restaurant. Nice project, but Bonnis, so will it ever exist?

1105-1109 Granville Street.
33 storeys, 103.7 m

More hotel rooms downtown on the corner where 8th & Main used to be. They'll keep the store facade.

Bonnis/Perkins Will

Interesting. Wonder if their code review is going to muck up their lobby and exiting designs. Will also be interesting to see the City's response to the dual use of the bike elevator

Will also be interesting to see the City's response to a reduction in individual balconies for what looks like all 1-beds and studios, I assume they're using the shared amenity argument.

and the hotel on Seymour near Robson, the whole area and Granville is going to be a lot nicer, would be nice if they clear out all of the SRO's the whole way and make it nice all the way to Davie and in turn improve Yaletown and the stretch of Davie headnig to the west end too

What are those retractable balconies about?

EDIT:

Design enclosed balconies to address noise
considerations on Granville Street and
surrounding urban context.
Studio 55
1 bedroom 77
2 bedroom 33
3 bedroom 11

Yes it looks like the balconies for the 2-bed units and 3's are enclosed. No balconies for studio and 1-ebds

Lol and the master bedrooms for the 2-beds look like they are so damn small - smaller than the secondary bedroom

The 1990s called, they want those buildings in the background renders back.

c'mon...what the heck space is in front of that render? it looks like a big park or plaza but it doesn't exist...the Chateau Granville setback is small and wouldn't provide this vista

Just a block up from the gathering Place drop in shelter? It looks like hotels are shaping up to be the city's next bubble. Room absorption in the off-season is going to be brutal.

I was confused by that too. I thought it was looking over Robson Square.

This rendering suggests that the as-built will be a spandrel mess.

Is that the sky between there?
Are these AI-generated renderings?

Have you looked at the hotel room prices recently? Its going to take a lot to bring those down. We only have 1 actually under construction, and half of the proposals likely won't go anywhere

There's horizontal lines where the spandrel is in that gap so it is a reflection

I don't believe for a minute that this will be built anything like the illustration - they're just getting the massing approved in a rezoning. They'll probably then try to sell the site, just like their project at the north end of Granville (with the office tower over the heritage building there). All that curved galss would cost a fortune, for a start.

(As a side note, the application booklet uses my image without any attribution!)
