I'm sure those planes are already earmarked for major routes like Montreal to Moldova or something like that.

As an aside, I found the map that the Air Canada route planners use:

I'd say somewhere between 0 and -1%.

My guess is if there is a route to South America for YVR it will eventually be AC to Bogota, which is a great hub for Star Alliance with their partner at Avianca. It's also more strategically located at the top of SA, since connecting through GRU requires backtracking to hit a lot of major destinations on the continent.

Here's an image of how BOG vs GRU stack up as a North American connection hub.

If AC were to defend YVR (which I highly doubt they care to do any time soon), they would immediately launch YVR-BOG 3-4x pW on the days WS launched GRU. It's a better hard product, I assume better O&D, and a better transit point to most of the major South American cities.

Looking at the geographic advantage BOG has it's honestly shocking and a testament to the incompetence at Avianca that they aren't the de facto hub to South America.

As I posted in another forum, if AC is to use the same timing as YUL/YYZ flight with the plane stay at GRU from 9am to 9:30pm (and potentially feed into EZE), then the timing will be perfect to capture connecting traffic from Japan, Korea, and China - with plane leaving YVR at around 4pm, and arrive back at 10am +2 days. Much better connection-wise compared to WS's offering.

But... it's a waste of resource though. I'm sure AC have better route to fly to than leaving the plane at GRU for 12 hours. But if they are using resource from YYZ/YUL and redirect a few weekly flight to YVR from GRU in a W pattern, then why not

AC is going to free up some widebodies when more and more of the XLR arriving this winter. The South American expansion already happened this winter, so either they need to add more frequency, or need to find more places to fly those widebodies to for next year.

I just tried to do a dummy booking and it's not loaded yet so I wonder plane they will be sending. I'd assume another 788 or 789.

Pretty shocked they're not sending a frequency to YYZ though, very odd that Toronto remains unserved by any Japanese carrier while Vancouver is 3x daily.
Aeroroute most likely get the info from this press release from ANA that list out the entire plan for the year:
https://www.anahd.co.jp/group/en/pr/202601/20260120.html

As you can see, it's pretty conservative as usual... Seems like NRT-YVR is operates using the resource from NQ subsidiary that was recently shut down.

Fortunately those routes are perfect for the XLR, and Vancouver is perfect for the 787-10.

Wow, that's a 324 seat 788. Talk about a flying bus.

I wonder how many have been painted. Would be neet to see an Air Japan tail at YVR for a season. Two ANA tails would be even better tho.

Well, NQ was a low cost carrier. They'll have to repaint and reconfigure it back to NH standard after NQ ceases operation by the end of March.

Question São Paulo or Bogotá

Over ten years ago, on the original YVR thread, somebody (Johnny Aussie, I believe) expressed surprise at the volume of O/D traffic between YVR and Brazil (presumably GRU)
If Calgary can now support YYC >< GRU, then surely Vancouver could, too, (providing turnaround times can be worked out). YVR >< BOG would give connecting access everywhere else in S.A.
The end product of this equation = YVR >< BOG and YVR >< GRU both, seem feasible and desirable. Could this South American city duo not therefore be a duet of new goals for YVR.?
Putting our minds together and lobbying for it might just make it so. South American connectivity seems worth fighting for.

Very impressive.

YVR-Japan will increase to 37 weekly this summer to NRT/HND/KIX

NH 14 per week
AC 11 per week
JL 7 per week
ZG 5 per week

What’s your beef with Avianca? LATAM and Avianca are the leading carriers in terms of number of flights between N and S America. In 2019, BOG was trailing GRU in terms of passenger numbers by over 8 million. Just 3 years later, it surpassed GRU to become the busiest in South America. GRU managed to take back #1, barely, and they are now neck and neck as the top two busiest airports in South America. No small feet for an airport and an airline that was bankrupt only a few years ago.

Futhermore, Avianca at least flies to 2 cities in Canada. Does LATAM fly to Canada? No. So I don't see where the incompetence is, especially post-bankruptcy. They're on the right track and have built up their BOG hub at an impressive pace of late.

Plus a few more incoming, if the rumors are true.

And if we add in EK/QR, it should be a good year or two for YVR.

YVR-CTS nonstop loaded on AC website now

New routes are great news as always...interesting it is with B788 and not A321XLR. Reinforces the notion that they are keeping A321XLR out east for the time being

Interesting. I wonder if they'll continue on to LAX or somewhere else to get the air frame time up, and try to hoover up ongoing traffic.

Whats the timing like?

Yes & (If) WS WestJet Calgary YYC - São Paulo GRU - YYC 3x weekly route didn’t work out - (they WS will decide to add a new international destination using the 787 to either Asia or Europe few times weekly from Calgary YYC)- as currently all 7 WS Boeing 787 planes are all based out of YYC✅.

Plus its way too early to tell if YYC - GRU - YYC route works or not at the moment✅.

Nice congrats to Vancouver YVR on another new route to Japan, next winter season .
https://www.travelweek.ca/news/airlines/...ice-to-sapporo-with-air-canada-from-yvr/

Plus lol the new AC route flight ✈️ numbers are similar to what WS WestJet announced yesterday regarding the Calgary YYC - São Paulo GRU Brazil- YYC route 3x weekly using WS 54/ 55 as well.

Heard the rumours and they were true, AC just announced Vancouver-Sapporo as a new seasonal route for next winter - and it will be a widebody route with a 787-8 rather than waiting for the A321XLR!

These ignorant East coast managers! How dare they! It should have been YUL-CTS….

Congrats to YVR. Nice addition. Should work out extremely well for AC. And the fact that it’s within range of an XLR means that even if loads are lighter than planned, AC can simply switch equipment in the future and operate it with a narrowbody if need be.

So AC brings a 788 over to launch the route. Now begs the question, where would would they use the 788 on the other 4 days? Every other route at noon departure flies daily, so they can't rotate with those.

And what happened to AC21/22... they're obviously saving it for something, maybe a year-round route?

I’m thinking maybe Osaka will become year round with the 788 in the winter season. Or maybe they will launch SGN

That’s what I’m thinking as well since it mentioned that we’ll see more announcements for W26/27 in the coming weeks. Since Osaka has been doing pretty well for AC, can see them making it year round.

As for SGN, they could be saving AC21/22 for that flight.
