It seems he actively votes against everyone else in council. No matter what it is. Hell, he voted against his own bill the other day because the council all voted it for it, he literally changed his vote.

He really likes to just go against everything, eh. It's getting old. Or he just doesn't understand how construction works. This building has been in the making for at least a decade and then he comes along and thinks a new location should be looked at - to save money, haha. That is beyond stupid. So all new designs, all new servicing, and then build it in 10 years when construction costs are 40% higher than what they are now. Just throw all the money spent to date in the bin because the mayor has an idea. For a guy that thinks the city spends too much, he really pushes to waste money.

I'd rather a mayor who can speak his mind even if he's garbage, rather than a deputy mayor who yesterday when asked about the subject promptly dodges it.
If a councilperson can tell the mayor last week to shut up and listen to the rest of their own complaint, they can't put their hands over their ears and go LALALALALALALA WE ARE SO HAPPY THAT WE ARE STARTING CONTRUCTION AT THIS SITE."
My taxes are about to go up to pay for this stupid performing arts center. I don't even have sidewalks on my street so I don't care how pretty this building looks. If the press asks you a question I'm paying you to answer them. Speak, puppy. Speak.

...and before either of you point out someone else on council can do better than the mayor (and he can get shanked in the parking lot by a Mustard Seed patron for all I care), absolutely nobody on council has won me over with their own agendas on what the city needs. My vote goes elsewhere next year.. I'm hoping they either go to a home....or to Kelowna.

I think they all suck. I had high hopes for the mayor, but he is just not savy enough to make any headway. Wish he was but he's proven he's not. Can't wait to vote the lot out!

Well said MIPS.

I dont mind a few on council, but Im beginning to feel let down in the political spectrum over all by the only choices we are ever given.

So Chandos has their sign up at the site down town I noticed... they are not an easy company to work with. I hope it turns out to be like the render, it would be a fantastic building.

Which site is this? Are they the contractor for the arts center?

Next to Memorial arena. Thankfully they have zero to do with the performing arts center.

Here's what they're proposing for the site. I'm sure Columbia Street would be getting a new light here. Coming out from Pemberton Terrace is already sketchy. The 11 storey part looks more like an office building, but hard to tell from the pre-liminary massing.

One thing our city is plagued with ( when dealing with a specific ownership base )
is the " dream " potential of a rezoning. Land owners are selling the DREAM of what could be built.

I've done all the work for you getting the rezoning done, all you have to do is build it now and I will raise the price of the land before you buy it.

I genuinely hope something like this gets built, but the level of detail for a render is Mario paint and we saw the same thing behind the Thompson inn ( 11 floors ) across from the Hospital ( 11 floors ) and on the North Shore ( 11 floors ) and this being 11 Floors, shows there is something to do with that height they keep suggesting being a selling pint for the land.

Great find, but with in the construction community there is no one talking about this project at all as of yet...

I don't know if it's the illustration but it looks like B1 has it's roof level with the viewpoint?

The last time I saw a mayor being completely unable to do his job because of lower-rank meddling it was Rob Ford. Before that I was not even aware that a council had the ability to override a mayor without it just being a complete coup. I'm surprised at this point they don't just shoot him and take his seat it's so obvious they just want to all be mayor.

I assumed the 11 storey proposal trend is from the building code now allowing wood buildings up to 12 stories.

The ones that just buy property and sell the dream for an inflated price suck, but doing this kind of preliminary massing is pretty common. Developers don't want to waste money on designs if the city won't allow the density. By the looks of the site plan they've already designed the hotel and 2nd building. Who knows what the plan is but I'll take these ghetto hotels and buildings getting demolished and it sit as bare land over the current use. Tournament Inn already looks better in Valleyview as dirt than it did as that scummy hotel.

Have you guys noticed that Ord rd development is on the market for 12.8 million for just the land, haha. I almost trust super preliminary drawings like this over more detailed, pretty designs. Seems like the nicer rendered projects are more often used as marketing material. They bought the Ord rd property for 3.5 million. Sorry your shitty designs and shitty location aren't worth that kind profit. Hope it doesn't sell, and I doubt it will.

Seems to be the same developers doing the same thing all the time.

Good to see! The more development in Iron Mask, the quicker it's connected with a bridge to the North Shore. A ring road around Kamloops would be great!

This is fantastic news. We need more new neighborhoods. With the projects taking place in Kamloops, other then in Juniper and to a vastly lesser degree Sun Rivers, there are no new neighborhoods going up anywhere. We need single family houses now more then ever, especially affordable ones.

It doesn't sound like they're proposing any single-family homes. Just apartment buildings and row houses.

Does anyone know anything about this? It didn't get much news attention but other than this one article there's no other information.

Bit of a unfounded assumption but could it be the Tranquille on the lake site?
