That NowMedia interviewer was terrible.

It'll be nice to see another project move forward around there though.

Pretty sure they are on the decline. The only real reporter they had was Kent Molgat and he took off to be CTVs regional guy for the Okanagan. That interviewer is the owner and while all second hand i have heard he isn't exactly a great person to work for.

This would be exciting to see come to fruition, good for the city and will probably speed up the development of that neighbourhood between Orchard Plaza and Spall.

I found this on Fifth Ave Properties website: Portfolio

Looks like they might be trying to give Stober some competition for office space in the Landmark District, that lot is right on the corner of Kirschner and Harvey.

Not sure I would have much faith in that developer building a highrise, their portfolio is SFH and lowrise multi-family.

Agreed, I am pretty skeptical of this ever being built. Parking must be underground and doing all the upgrades to Harvey to make this work would be a nightmare.

I also think downtown is still the much better site for a conference centre + hotel.

The big empty lot beside Prospera Place would make more sense to me.

I agree, it’s definitely a pipe dream project but who knows what could happen years down the road.

It’s close to the Landmark buildings and could attract events from the types of businesses that exist in them.

How much office space is in Landmark vs Downtown proper?

New hotel/conference center looks awesome, but the wrong location. A project of that magnitude anywhere along Harvey Avenue should not happen until Highway 97 is moved off it. Sounds like were at least 20 plus years from that happening, but a new update this past week on the upcoming Clement Avenue extension. The roundabout at Dilworth is a disaster waiting to happen. Just put a light and someday it can be upgraded to an interchange. Also not too fond of the 2 lanes only between Dilworth and Highway 33, unless they make it super easy to expand to 4 lanes. Actually, the entire route should be built to accommodate 6 or even 8 lanes in the future.

https://www.kelownanow.com/watercooler/n...ension_project_moves_to_detailed_design/

Notice they refer to it as the 'first phase' of the Clement extension. No, the first phase was from Gordon to Spall, completed in 2007 (originally Clement ran from Ellis to Gordon). Back then it was said the next section to Highway 33 would be complete by 2012 and out to UBCO by 2020. Nevertheless, its better late than never and I am glad to see it moving ahead. Even with the ridiculous roundabout and the 2 lane section, lets get it built already!

Yeah, typical shortsightedness. Can’t seem to understand why nothing in this province ever gets built with the future in mind. If clement to 33 is only 2 lanes then that means that highway 33 to McCurdy and beyond will also be. Like what the actual f*ck? Kelowna isn’t a small town anymore and the traffic is ATROCIOUS. Do it right the first time. Put people to work. Create jobs. What are we so afraid of?

The governments stance is anti car, because car=bad. But I also thought they were pushing for everyone to drive electric? Do electric cars not create congestion??

2 lanes is perfect. Creates a new optimal route for already existing traffic, but is not too much like 3 or 4 lanes to create more induced demand.

A new performing arts centre next to Waterfront park and the Delta Grand Hotel.

Interesting indeed...I'd rather this be the proposed conference centre space

Noticed no one has shared an update for UBCO in awhile. They are now above grade and starting the shoring for the second storey.

Thanks for the update. This will surely change the face and feel of the immediate area. Do you know how many stories for underground parking they went with? Any idea what they might do with the damaged building they acquired next door?

Disagree 100%

It is the perfect corridor to be the primary roadway for the city (coupled with a second crossing).

Essentially it should have been uplifted by the province and built as a four lane free flow artery and designated as the new 97. At the same time Harvey (which goes right through the middle of the city) should have had lanes removed and traffic calmed and had its focus more geared towards transit.

I too disagree. We are in desperate need of a second artery thru the north end of the city, especially with all the densification they’re planning on 97 and in Rutland. It’s a shame that the city just doesn’t seem to get it that traffic is probably THE worst thing about living here. And yet we don’t do more than the absolute bare minimum to fix it

Out of curiosity, has traffic in the city changed much since 2020/2021? I moved away at the end of 2020 and wonder if there has been a pronounced step-change or something.
