Speaking of Route 2;

Does anyone else find the work done from CNR viaduct to Kilbride overpass horrendous?

I thought the original scope was to fix the lighting on that section. The lighting was fixed alright, resulting in a roadway now filled with humps, bumps, and dips from CNR viaduct to Kilbride

To add insult to injury, the original underground cabling which at least respected the environment aesthetics, was supplemented with unsightly wooden poles halfway up the North side! A typical NL shoddy job.

Guessing that precast sections of roadway would be the quickest and easiest way to go. Seemed straightforward enough when they installed the TGH overpass at Topsail Road. More challenging there I suppose, but far from impossible.

Newfoundland was ripped off from the beginning on the Roads For Rails Agreement. Peckford 'sold' losing the railway, as an opportunity to twin the Trans Canada Highway. It only got as far as Whitbourne from St. John's, with some isolated sections in Grand Falls and Corner Brook.

Meanwhile NS & NB, retained their railways (admittedly standard gauge) and also received money for twinning their portions of the TCH. NB is now fully twinned from QC to NS, and a substantial portion of NS TCH is also twinned.

As the NL Railway was embedded in the Terms of Union; NL probably could have, and should have, reaped better benefits from it's demise.

Driving along Brookfield Rd. yesterday I noticed the first precast concrete sections of the underpass for the new entrance to the experimental farm being installed. The pedestrian underpass at the divergence of Brookfield Rd and TGH was also partially covered in fill. Maybe there'll be a (mostly) completed roadbed done this fall...ready for paving in the spring...??

Yes saw it today. Also most of the concrete divider appears to be done.

Coming out Pitts, I got a quick glance at the roundabout beneath the overpass
(North Side). Hard to see at highway speed, but the circle appeared 'one lane' instead of two lane like Galway. The animation that the government released was for a 'two lane' circle?

They worked throughout winter 2025 since we never had no snow. So depending how this winter season goes they might get ahead of schedule. Fingers can only be crossed though

Coming back from Southern Shore approaching Ruby Line this morning I saw the electronic sign that had indicated Construction/Closure ahead on Rte 3/Pitts wasn't there. Sure enough the roundabouts are now open. I'm not sure when it happened, but must be in last few days.

I continued my travels downtown on Pitts... only to find construction Still ongoing... Good God

I wish they would have painted some lines on these before opening them to traffic. People seem to be complaining about getting confused, thinking it's a single lane configuration. The original report identified the roundabout option as "a multi-lane roundabout corridor with roundabout control", and it was also shown in this animation.

It's a temporary setup until it's connected to the TGH, assuming it's because commonwealth and ROUTE 3 are 2 lane roads. The direction signs are there, but anything indicating left and right lane is covered up until it's fully completed.

The tender documents show 2 lane roundabouts so it will definitely be changed later

Agreed, I took the Pitts Westbound exit @ Commonwealth yesterday and they do have the signs erected indicating a multi-lane roundabout.

For comparison, the Ruth Ave. bridge over Pitts is two lane (one in each direction), and it opens into a multi-lane roundabout on both sides of the bridge. The roundabout entry points become wider immediately after the bridge and allow for this configuration, which is the same situation as here.

If it's proven to be acceptable elsewhere, I see no reason why they couldn't have painted the lines, rather than leaving it up to the gen pop to decipher.

Anyway, it is what it is.

They should definitely have painted the lines. I scrolled through some of the comments on the Facebook link you posted earlier and many people seem to think it's a single lane roundabout.

Slow progress on TGH. More concrete divider installed on roadbed along with more backfill near the new Experimental Farm underpass & pedestrian underpass to the west. They've begun installing sections of precast retaining wall too.
