I’ve been away

So I wanted to reply to a few of you my apologies for just getting back to you all.
AZ71: yes it’s way to difficult to post on here call me a simpleton lol I really appreciate the folks who figured it out!

Tloc: thanks for the updates I live in the area and man it’s a mess with all the construction on both ends and not to mention this I10 reconstruction project it’s on my last nerve already but it will be worth it at the end.
It’s crazy to see the amount of construction and projects going on here in the south side of town. From historical reasons and politics this side of town has always largely been over looked. Now it’s going to be the center for entertainment, sports, restaurants, and family gatherings.

AndrewSaturn: So I did catch the RN meeting yesterday and the old HiFi space will be called block A sports bar by Mr.Kruger ( yuck) I think he is just awful as a restaurateur but nevertheless he got the space. So he wants huge multiple LED walls throughout the space more Vegas style sports book vibe.
The renderings are not final they look good it will be an “upscale” sports bar like mentioned in the Daily Star but we all know it’s DT Tucson. He will offer late night food service until midnight and wants to include the Tucson Roadrunners and the sugar skulls in the concept for local sports.

Major news Fletcher mentioned Obie group will be going forward with the project and will be presenting at this months board meeting so we finally find out what all this time led too. He did mentioned they are still doing the retail, hotel, and residential component's. I hope that gives us at least 12 to 15 stories

Did you see this posted on Twitter? Someone did an AI idea for 75 E Broadway saying this is the size and scale of the project needed. I know 100% it wont be even close to this...but I think this is cool. I think AI did a better job than what was proposed by Peach Prop & Swaim years ago.

This!!

This is exactly what I wish this project would eventually look like! we all know swami don’t have the vision nor the want to build anything like this. I think this project needs scaling like this. The previous renderings were just god awful.

RN meeting today

Was able to catch the RN meeting while working today. Some interesting projects presented and some info on a couple new ones.

Nothing to write home about, but the major news today was that we are for sure going to be hearing from OBIE group as they will be presenting next week on the 18th! Let’s prepare for the worst and hope for the best

Well it’s even worse then we could’ve imagined it’s now called the Tucson inn and market place. No apartments small hotel and just retail the cost of the project is now down to $50 million what a joke I hate this town and RN for allowing this is the center of town

That’s tomorrow at the RN meeting I found it on the RN website on the meeting agenda for tomorrow it’s gives you the description of the part from the Obie group. I just messaged a county board member asking them to not approve it as it’s required

Need to email the news stations telling them about it. More public outcry will be the only thing that moves RN. All they're interested in is revenue to fund RN.

I've already emailed the entire RN board of directors and Jan Lesher, Pima County Administrator. I see someone has already posted something on Twitter.
I have a connection to Pat Parris at KVOA. I'll see if I can get him involved. But doubtful he'll have time to do any kind of story before a meeting tomorrow if he's even interested.

You’re awesome man! I’ll hit up the reporters on Twitter and continue hitting up my connection on the county board as well.

Where on Twitter did you see something referencing anything?

Thanks to ZonaRealtor2021
Here are the images of 75 E Broadway. Looks to be about a 5-6 story hotel and "marketplace" called Tucson Inn & Market...in a handy mexican/santa fe style design. Hotel and market, no residential.

I have the same sentiments as most of you about the current concept of this project. I am so disappointed in them for not including residential as it could only benefit the area in a prime location.

I like the marketplace concept, but the adobe style design is kind of odd to me in that immediate surrounding area with the TEP building to the South and the more modern style architecture on Congress.

It's not a horrible design if it were on the west side of I-10 in the Mercado area. But agree, it doesn't belong in the center of downtown.

Never thought about it that way but you're right. The white faux mexican design is far more appropriate for the Mercado District than prime real estate downtown. Even if they picked up the brickwork of Congress Street & the old Courthouse west of it would have blended better. I feel this might suffer the La Placita Effect. A bad interpretation of Mexican culture with shops. It will show poor performance and then they'll paint it outlandish colors and add a mural.

Even just changing it to a more industrial brick & steel (like this AI interpretation) helps in my opinion.

I agree. It's not bad looking - just underwhelming and out of place for the center of downtown. And another missed opportunity. Especially with no apartments.

I've always been surprised that there hasn't been more brick or brick accents on newer buildings to tie in with the older buildings downtown and with the brick at the university.

I'm not surprised. Look at the developers we choose for projects. The lowest and cheapest of the cheap. All the buildings around UofA are out of state developers.

I encourage everyone to voice your concerns with this project (be it height, lack of residential, its aesthetic visual appeal) with Rio Nuevo and Obie Companies. RN board members were raving about this project, btw. This tells you how out of touch they are with the community. Just like their surprise how the community reacted to that comedy club fiasco.

It really is too bad that Tucson doesn't have a Market District with Spanish revival low rises anywhere near this site. It would fit in well in a district with white stucco Spanish buildings 4 to 6 floors high
