Those old ladies pushing carts were scarry to be around on the sale days.

When I was student had a part-time job for a while stocking shelves at the Bay toy land in downtown Vancouver. The scary thing was were weekend when they had scratch cards to get 10%-25% off everything in the store.

Very similar. In fact both malls had grocery stores when they first opened and were both around the same size (between 500-600k square feet). Although I'm sure Westmount in a more populated city/region had higher sales per square foot in its heyday.

Molson, did you see this?
As if Farhi needs more London holdings in his real estate empire. I recall an English man on YouTube walking around Ontario's London asking: "Who in the heck is Farhi and why is his name on every other building in London?"

Trail had a Bay?

Wow. Never thought it was even remotely large enough.

I remember Penticton's Bay, as one of the smaller cities hosting a Bay.

argh, Farhi strikes again. The guy owns it all. And everything he touches turns to shit. The MidASS touch. Somehow he generates a positive cash flow from all the empty buildings he owns.

Ft St John had a Bay store, it closed a while after Zellers opened in the newly built mall.

Zellers moved out of Northland in the early 90's down to Oxbury Mall and Kmart closed and moved over to Northland. Kmart went out of business and Zellers moved back to Northland. When Target came along this was one of the several Zellers stores they didn't take up and Walmart came along. Walmart was planning a new store up at Fanshawe and Highbury but those plans have apparently been dropped with the latest site plan update for that commercial development.

St Thomas also had Kmart and Sears at the mall
You’re right, I was referring to Northland Mall. The Kmart at Oxford and Wonderland became a liquidation store for a couple of years then became Sears Outlet Store.

The Zellers stores I remember in London were Westmount Mall, Sherwood Forest Mall, Masonville, Northland Mall, Pond Mills Square, and Wellington south of the 401 (the old Towers). Sherwood Forest was notable for having the mid-70s logo on the outdoor signage and never updating it after the logo was updated to the familiar handwritten logo in 1979, the old logo was there right up until it closed in maybe 2000. Never once saw that logo anywhere else.

There was another Zellers on Dundas Street downtown (the original 1931 location) that was apparently still open when I was born but closed before the end of the 80s. It may have coincided with the opening of the Westmount location, I believe that store was added when the mall was expanded in the late 80s.

Someone I brought to London in 2019 saw all the Farhi signs downtown and asked me if Farhi was a restaurant chain.

Simons Eaton Centre opened today. Did it take over the whole footprint of the former Nordstrom store?

Sweet. I have something else to check out next time I'm in Toronto.

I wish Hamilton would get a store, since Niagara is low on their expansion list.

No. It is sharing the space with Nike and Eataly.

Maybe I didn't give enough of a chance, but I found Simon's generic and boring. I liked the Bay much better. Too bad it shut down.

I could see Mapleview getting one eventually.

Limeridge seems to be on the downhill with it's sale to Primaris, unfortunately.

That's unfortunate to hear about Limeridge Mall.

If forced to drive all the way to Burlington, I might as well just continue on my way to Toronto

Only experience I've had with Simon's was in QC in fall 2019. I think I found some underwear. My ex spent a lot on women's clothing and stuff for her adolescent "children" though.

I went to the Simons on St. Catherines here in Montreal today. Nice store, plenty of staff, good quality goods but nothing out of the ordinary. Basic safe clothing, but hey it’s nice to have a selection on one location.

I went to the one in Rideau Centre last summer. It was cool to wander around actually looking at stuff now that I don't need a big and tall store anymore. I bought a couple bathing suits that have since been replaced by a bathing suit from another new Canadian online retailer I have to give a shout out to. I first saw Manmade on Dragon's Den a few years ago. They were pitching underwear. I laughed. They got the guys on the panel to try the things on and Robert actually walked around on stage in just the boxer briefs. I don't recall if they made a deal or not. 4 buddies from university in Montreal and they do great online content around their brand. Product wasn't something I was interested in at the time until 2 years ago after my major weight loss and I was looking for new stuff to wear. Dragon's Den repeat comes on and of course, Facebook hears it so I get served all their ads online. They had a promo so I ordered a pair. I was always a briefs guy so these took a little getting used to, but I loved them after a few times wearing them.

They have since branched into other products, socks, swim shorts, pants, shirts and a sweater. The socks are nice but I don't love them, the ones I have were tossed in as a thank you I guess for repeated orders. But I have something like 16 pairs of the box briefs, 3 Tshirts and the swim shorts, and plan to order the sweater this weekend. The shirts are great for guys like me that aren't perfect physical specimens, they are really designed to hide the flaws and enhance the chest and arms.

I didn't intend to turn this into a commercial for them, I was only going to mention the bathing suits I bought at Simons and then it went from there lol. DINA lol.

I've sometimes thought we should have a new thread where we could share tips on Canadian-made products that we can recommend. I've switched many of my personal care products away from made in USA and have been surprised what is/isn't made in Canada. Manmade is not made in Canada, but I like everything I've bought from them except the t-shirt, which is too stretchy for my taste. I admit its one of the few times I've succumbed to all the TV/on-line advertising.
