27C with a humidex of 35. Thunderstorms late in the morning. It cleared up late this afternoon. We got about 10 mm based on the PWS I see (that can actually be trusted). First real rain (like more than 1-2 mm) since July 17th so almost a month.
Before the rain came, we had actually reached 28C at 10AM which will be the official high.





Low was actually 22C (humidex of 30) during the thunderstorm at noon. Before that, the morning temperature was 25C (humidex of 31) at its lowest.

The warmspot was Goose Bay, NFLD at 36.5C.

The warmest low was Montreal Metropolitan and Downtown Montreal at 22.2C.

High of 29.9 with a humidex of 38, there were some lingering clouds after last night's storms, but it was overall a nice calm day with sunny periods. Temperature dropped below 20 a few minutes before midnight (my daily stats cutoff) so this streak of tropical lows technically ends at seven days. Last time it was below 20 was Aug 5th at 5:30am

We had a high of 21 C today. The weekend had 30 C highs and the last two days about 26 so today felt much cooler. The low tonight is 4 degrees so the portable air conditioner is being turned off.

No forest fires around here as we've had enough rain all Summer to keep things moist but not too much of it which has been nice.

I know what it's like to go through crazy forest fires in the area. It appears that Northern SK and MB are getting some big doses of rain. Hopefully the same will happen soon in the Atlantic provinces.

It's interesting how two or three of the Atlantic provinces are handling the current situation. Ontario has never just simply closed recreational activities due to dry conditions. I only remember specific bush roads being closed but only close to large forest fires. We've always been able to hike, use ATVs and whatever other activity. Of course no fires were allowed and that is very strictly enforced here when a restricted fire zone is declared for the region.

Unfortunately any criticism of this is being labeled as “far right” on social media platforms. Seems bizarre to hand over an honest issue of contention to the fringe.

Fire bans and banning certain activities that are more likely to spark fires (like dirt bikes), okay, but closing the woods off completely? No.

I half agree. All we've banned is off-road vehicles - and even that has exceptions. I think that's reasonable, but I also have no moral or political issue should government decide to restrict recreational access to the woods during a period of extreme fire risk. The right-wingers will be upset either way - trying to placate them is a losing game. The nutjobs here were already foaming at the mouth at our government based on Nova Scotia's decision - we weren't even involved. Definitely the type to blame Carney for potholes.

I just dies at the "mah freedoms!!!!" when they'd gleefully take away healthcare and equality from others. I just think... aww, poor sookie baby can't go on a quad in the woods for four days. Dial it the fuck back. "We live in a society..." Etc.

20C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 8 AM, going up to 28C this afternoon with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

The wildfire in the Irishtown area on the northern outskirt of Moncton is now contained. There were thunderstorms in eastern NB last evening (Moncton didn't get any), and, although there was rain, there was also copious lightning, and, there are 10 new wildfires today.

Whatever rain we get today won't be enough. We are still in a serious drought. There is no other rain forecast in the next week.

Today's fire update is... We're asking Ottawa to extend EI. Sigh.

Beyond that... Paddy's Pond still out of control but looking good.

Kingston fire has now entered another community. Not possible to say for certain yet but estimate is about 100 homes/structures lost.

Martin's Lake fire has exploded. 16 km from Grand Falls-Windsor. Highway to Connaigre Peninsula is closed - ferries and air routes being deployed as needed to get people with medical appointments, etc., across to the Burin Peninsula. Good news is rain expected there tomorrow and a massive fire break constructed in 2022 is between the fire and Grand Falls-Windsor.

Premier and Ministers really not holding back admonishing the rural folks complaining about air support being moved to the Paddy's Pond fire near St. John's, and who are upset at government regulation generally, who are harassing first responders and public servants. Premier said it's disgusting and their calls and emails are ugly, angry, and not who we are. Minister said cut the crap, they're the same trolls who were upset about everything during COVID. Called them assholes. Etc. They didn't hold back - love to see it. We have to stop coddling these entitled fucking idiots.

Also, KW, we did finally get one. Not involved with any of the big fires, but Premier just noted they will be pursuing three fines against this man of $50,000 each.

Crown Land was closed in the Rocky Mountain Forest District except for essential travel B.C in 2017 in early September, dont recall what the length of time was We had 1.2 million hectares burnt that summer....it was a brutal one.

In other news, we've thus far had no bans on campfires in the Southern Interior and my anxiety from being chased from our home (fire burnt up to the end of our street in 2023) has been kept in check...

Willful arson at a time of severe drought like this is a high crime, similar to murder or rape. He should get 10 years minimum.

My city's temperatures are factual so have every right to post them.
I don't "Mercury Jockey" (your rule) but for some reason you let Nicko compare his world famous summer lows to cities like Toronto and Windsor.
