Seven provinces all recording over 35 is very impressive, and might be a record.

Lytton, BC apologizes to the East Coast for stealing the hotspot today.

It was another scorcher on the west coast too.

31 to 35 in the Fraser Valley.

Nanaimo burning it up again with a high of 34.3, and a low of 21.7. Looks like a good chance for two tropical lows in a row.

Port Alberni was again the coastal hotspot with 37.2.

What’s interesting is in the horrible fire year nationwide, BC has actually been very quiet fire wise, in fact the two worst fires in southern BC now are both in Vancouver Island and not the interior.

It's 30C at the moment still (11PM).

Low of 22C (humidex of 26).

The warmspot was Lytton, BC at 39.8C

Warmest low was Point Pelee, ON at 25.3C. That could actually tie the highest low this year if it holds.

I doubt that low will hold, we just got thunderstorms that dropped the temperature. Here, this morning's low was 24.6, but now it's down to 20.5. The high was 31.7 with a humidex of 42. We've had seven "tropical lows" in a row. The temperature is supposed to go back up tonight after the storms pass, and it will be 30 again tomorrow, then slightly cooler on Thursday (forecast is high 27 low 18)

We already have 27 mm of rain and it's still pouring, our first rainfall this month.

Three brushfires downtown last night - basically encircling me Seems a bit suspicious. One at the bottom of my street by City Hall, another a block over, and a third up by St. Clare's hospital. All three quickly put out - and afterward I could hear the roar of lawnmowers so I guess the City did some preemptive work elsewhere.

22C in Moncton at only 8 AM, going up to 35C again this afternoon (humidex 42).

There is a 30% chance of showers or thunderstorms this evening. I'm worried about lightning strikes starting some fires.

Sun, haze, and smoke, and 24 at just before 9:30. A bit more humidity in the air today, dew points around 15 right now.

Highs near 31 expected again, with St. John's airport taking one final crack at 30 today. Temperatures will start to cool after today, highs of 28 expected tomorrow, 26 on Friday, before really falling off back down into the high teens for Saturday.

Nova Scotia has a fleet of Airbus H-125s which the Nova Scotia gov't says these helicopters can scoop and dump water on a faster rotation than fixed-wing aircraft, dropping a higher volume in total on a wildfire. They can also draw water from smaller water bodies, making good use of Nova Scotia’s many lakes and ponds.

Its been an absolutely fantastic so far in the Okanagan, some extreme heat days, mixed with some cooler wet days and we havent had to deal with any smoke. Theres a slight haze today, possibly worst we've had this year. Very thankful.

Cool down today, high of 29c with a gusty wind warning as a cold front is sweeping into British Columbia bringing some much needed rain this weekend, including potential for upwards of 50mm in Vancouver and 80mm on west side of Vancouver Island.

This morning's update was a bit of a mixed bag of news.

Two fines ($50K minimum) have been levied, one against an individual and one against a business (using industrial mulching equipment in a forested area).

There was a protest planned in Conception Bay North, in support of actions taken by those specific rural types who intended to prevent firefighting equipment from being transferred to the Paddy's Pond fire near St. John's. The Premier and Ministers had to go on at length about how we're all in this together, the two fires are close together and under a single incident command post, and all decisions are made my experts based on fire behaviour.

And we're banning ATVs in forested areas until at least August 17. Government stressed almost everyone is fully cooperating with this, and there's also a learning curve as we have some regions of the province where ATVs are the primary mode of transportation (particularly in northern Labrador, and car-free communities on the south coast of Newfoundland).

Cells have been popping up in central NB this afternoon, likely with beneficial local rainfall, but, the EC lightning tracker is showing lots of activity associated with these cells. This makes me nervous.

There is one cell along the SW outskirts of Moncton which is stationary. No lightning with this one (yet).

Probably on par for a typical summer at this point but with less 35C+ days and more rain.

Skies are so clear in town. I think tomorrow's update, hopefully, is that the Paddy's Pond fire is under control.

The Martin Lake fire a half hour or so south of Grand Falls-Windsor, though, exploded today. Evacuation order has been expanded to more cabin areas.
