im not a firefighter but im a critical link in the protection of lynn lake and went did my part to help leaf with getting backup power setup for their water plant as their genset is broken hole in the block

i run municple and industrial water plants and have all the power needs sorted if we loose power in lynn
im the infrastructure guy in town.


as for the fires yes theyre everywhere that normal whats going on this year is realy unusual and has spread the resources so thin no one can keep up with manpower manitobas having a bad year


also we have seen maybe 10mm of rain since june its bone dry
never seen the river this low talking to old timers the've never seen it this low ever

I'm curious as to why these fires are so stubborn. In the last few weeks several cool and wet stretches have hit that area, yet seem to have no effect. If you transplanted the same July to the Okanagan it would be the least active fire season ever.

I'm guessing there are a lot of peat bogs around there that smolders the fires allowing them to spring up when it gets dry again?

The area is mostly bog/muskeg, which makes firefighting difficult and the fires get deep into the organic materials and can reignite easily and the peat doesnt need a lot of oxygen to be highly flammable once dried out. Allows the fires stubborn as hell.

Majority of the fires in Northern BC earlier this year were "zombie fires" that burned deep in the muskeg all winter and reignited in the Spring.

lol, that's very hard to find this year. Grass that's perpetually in the shade (under heavily tree'd areas) has stayed mostly green, but anything exposed to the sun has long turned yellow and died. There's been a little pop in colour from the rain we had a few days ago, but we're deep into drought territory.

Both June and July have been incredibly dry, under 50% of our typical precipitation for both months now (July being closer to only 40%). Along with a relatively calm winter, there's no mistake as to why this has been our worst forest fire season in a very long time.

Currently cloudy, some sunny breaks, and 23 at 1pm. Smoke is noticeable in the sky, the sun is an orange/red. Highs near 25 expected.

leafs built ontop of an esker.at least. but that fire came in at a rank6 witch is nuts amazed the fire gards worked






but yes the swampy areas are incidious witch nearly took out lynn lake when the mine site caught fire in may tht fires still raging on its north flank


theres a few zombie fires up here that flair up in august west of town and have been for the last 30yrs



the weaather still the same dry dry dry winds back sat maybe 1mm rain tomarrow though leaf they are saying 5-10mm forcasts are all over the place

Hot! Great day to head to a beach and go for a swim. These are from North Beach Provincial Park, Sandbanks provincial parks little brother.





Basically its a 2 sided beach separated by sand dunes. This in the non-Lake Ontario side




This end of the beach was rocky so no one was using it. So we set up shop here.
