It's been another nice day in Vancouver, partly cloudy, with a high of about 23°C.

So — sticky, but seems to be improving. Got me lawn mowed before the worst of it. Lying on the lounger in the sprinkler lol

Loves this neighbourhood lol

Also there was a fire up in Shea Heights this morning, lots of sirens for ages, but no news.

Beauty day, again.

Rice Lake (so named as wild rice used to grow in this lake. Water levels were raised when the Trent-Severn waterway was built, and so rice no longer grows). This is about 20 min north of Cobourg.

Back in town. Lake Ontario.

A lovely 23C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 4 PM.

I mowed my grass today without breaking into a sweat (low humidity), and was preparing to whipper-snip afterwards when I ran out of line. I have to let the replacement line soak in water for 24 hours before respooling the line dispenser, so now I have the perfect excuse to sit on my upstairs balconey and let the world go by before supper.

Beautiful day turned beautiful evening.

Cobourg is standing in for Miami Beach of all places. Some kind of movie or TV shoot. Lots of different shows and movies have been/are filmed here.

These lifeguard stations are always here but they've changed the colours of 2 of them to orange and pink

99% sure these are for the filming and will be gone after

You should get them leave the palm trees on the beach and see what happens

Sadly, the palm tree experiments in Dartmouth and Moncton both failed.

19C and cloudy in Moncton at 10 AM, going up to 29C this afternoon. Himidity has returned, with a 60% chance of showers.

Halifax has had a palm tree growing for many years in the Hydrostone (visible on Google Street view; I've posted it before). They box it up in winter. Presumably there are others. There are also some mature Monkey Puzzle trees in NS.

But the palm trees in Dartmouth that q12 was so proud of have all died. I didn't realize it was that much colder on the other side of the harbour.

The Moncton palm tree on the Avenir Centre plaza lasted about two winters before packing it in.

It's warm, but windy. Strong sun, sporadic cloud. Lovely, relaxing day!

As luck would have it I saw one of these today and immediately recognized it from this thread. I don't think I've seen one before either.

That is a Trumpeter Swan behind it.

There was actually an incredible amount of birds along the shore feeding on small alewife fish. I couldn't manage to capture the scope of all them. Gulls, terns, swans, geese, ducks, etc.

Anywho, broken record but another beautiful day.

As for the palm trees. I'm going to upgrade my prediction to a 99.9% chance they will not be staying.

It's been a solid two weeks of hot and humid weather, this weekend dialed up a notch. 33.1 yesterday and 33.2 today, humidex of 42 and 43, lows of 21.4 and 25.0. We've only had 1mm of rain in the past two weeks, the grass is yellow and crunchy. We will hopefully get some thundershowers overnight or tomorrow, which should cool things off a bit.

New Brunswick was always going to be a hard sell for any palm, even with boxing them up in the winter, to survive.

As we see even around Halifax is on the edge of being able to do so, and still requires major care, such as boxing them up in the winter.

The only places in Canada outside of the BC coast where a windmill palm might be able to survive without being boxed away during the winter is Sable Island and maybe the most maritime exposed locations directly next to the ocean on the very southeastern tip of Nova Scotia.

Monkey Puzzle trees surviving around Halifax doesn't surprise me.
