Why is it that this is the first time I'm seeing this species of goose? Is it new? I think I just discovered a new species because I've never seen a photo of this before. Like, Ottawa is not that far from the GTA and Central Ontario, yet I've never seen this thing before.

As for the metal grate bridge, is it sketchy driving on when snowing?

Second time in two and a half weeks finding abandoned goose eggs. This time in Alexandria to go along with Oakville before. Never before have I seen this yet it happened twice recently. Just like last year when I never had road kill but then hit a red squirrel and three weeks later had walking kill when a chipmunk ran right under my foot while I was walking back from the barbecue with a plate of burgers.

I also was fishing under the Vimy bridge and saw a dead raccoon. Then walked a few more feet and found another. Never seen two dead animals that close to each other.

Before I left, the mulberries in my backyard were all green. I came back some some have colour. I'm pretty sure they are well late this year. I guess due to the crappy spring.

It's a Brant Goose, I had to look that up. They are headed to the high arctic for breeding.

And yes, mulberries are a bit late like many other things this spring. My passion flower is only like two feet tall, when usually it's up to the roof already and starting to flower. Looks like a bad year for pawpaws too, mine will only have a about 25% of last year's crop due to the cool weather in May. We had those days in the low teens with rain right at the time they were flowering.

I spoke too soon about the heat wave ending, we ended up not getting any rain yesterday or the day before, everything went to the north and the heat dome stayed over Lake Erie and a bit of the north shore. High of 30 yesterday with a humidex of 41, and today it's currently 28 with a humidex of 38. We'll probably get some thunderstorms tonight, but tomorrow is supposed to be 30 and super humid again.

Oh, wow. I had a special moment without knowing it at the time. I saw that goose on the Saturday and it was by its lonesome. I came back to the same park on Monday and that goose was in the exact same spot. I only looked at it for 15 seconds on the Saturday and was only walking past that spot, but no one else was looking at it and there were plenty of people around. Either Ottawa people are used to seeing them during their migration or it's just unremarkable because it's like a boring version of a Canada goose.

I think both coming from hot and sticky Taiwan, and (judging from your pictures) being primarily located near the sea breeze and not the warmer inland locations has definitely fed into this perception.

Starting on Saturday though the forecast is looking good!

This is the time of the year though when being a cool period the Okanagan is world's better than the coast. Yesterday and today being perfect examples, mid teens on the coast but mid 20s in the Okanagan.

20C and mainly overcast until late this afternoon when it cleared up. So we go from record breaking heat directly to pretty cold weather. I think the hot few days were a mirage... we are continuing with the crappy weather. Consistent in the crappyness.

Low of 17C. Wasn't too bad as it was leftover from the warmth.

The warmspot was Windsor, ON at 31.3C.

Warmest low was Belleville, ON at 18.8C.

If you were to poll people in the city and give them the options: Full summer (so 3 months total) of the weather we got today or full summer of the weather we got to start the week (sauna like), I would think at least 60% would vote for the heat.
If mid 40 humidex is gross (for some people), today was gross-er.

18C and sunny in Moncton at 9 AM, going up to 23C this afternoon.

Unfortunately the weekend will be rainy. Too bad for my lawn, since it is getting longish, and I likely won't be able to get around to cutting it.

^ While living in St. John's I can only recall seeing hail during a thunderstorm two other times before today, but both other times were very very short lived, mixed with rain, and pretty small.

This morning was intense. A good 5 minutes or so of intense, strong hail (no rain) and it was a fair size for here. A very rare sight.

Wow! Is it really that rare there?

It isn't that common in Vancouver but I'd say maybe once a year? Mind you, there do seem to be a lot of dramatic hail events around the world lately (or maybe we're just better at capturing them). Apologies for the clickbaity into photo but the footage is real, posted yesterday:

This past week has been downright chilly. Apparently this was the coldest June 20th on record specifically, with a high of 14°. With today's high of 16° and overcast skies, it hasn't warmed up much since.

25C with a humidex of 27 and mainly cloudy. Rain started this evening and the temperature dropped.

Low of 15C this morning.

The warmspot was Windsor, ON at 33.0C.

Warmest low was Harrow, ON at 21.9C.

Looks like the heat (while moderated a bit) never left extreme Southern Ontario. Lucky them.

Thunderstorms and cooler temps have been in the forecast since Wednesday, but so far it hasn't rained and it's still hot and muggy. I'm sitting outside right now at 1 am and It's 25 with 80% humidity.

27C with a humidex of 35 and mainly sunny late this afternoon. It was very crappy early on with rain and cool temperatures. Even some loud thunderstorm in the morning. The fact it cleared up at around 2PM saved the day. It was 17C at 1 in the afternoon. We had a spectacular warm up after that.

Low of 16C this morning. Crappy and rainy.

The warmspot was Winnipeg (both airport and the Forks), MB at 32.9C

Warmest low was Harrow, ON at 22.4C.
