I don't think there will be an underground connection through to Emily Carr?

I don't think so. PCI/Low Tide's development doesn't seem to provide a secondary entrance? There's some kind of P1 pavilion space surrounding the new station.

does anyone know when CAMBIE street will go back to full lanes at Broadway?

I see here in Nov 2021 they started work on the "sewerline on cambie" >>

As part of the Broadway Subway project’s extension of the Millennium Line with a new station at Broadway-City Hall, the sewer lines running beneath Cambie Street are being relocated. During this work, traffic will be reduced to four lanes and shifted to the east side of Cambie Street between W 7th and W 12th avenues.

and as per the article >> A major Vancouver street will be missing several lanes for the next few months.

here we are 4.5 years later here and Cambie is still a mess ...... WHY? anyone know whats up?

I think it's because of the connection passageway between the Canada and subway platforms? I assume there was zero point of re-opening the lanes after they moved the utilities if they had to close them again later for the passageway. Throw in all the delays in the station construction which probably needed to complete before they could start work on the passageway.

Cambie restored 2026 looks more likely than late this year.

If we are talking about lanes, what's the plan for Broadway?

I remember, but maybe i'm wrong, that someone here said that the blocks of the new stations will have the new sidewalks layout (that makes sense because i don't see the point in making everything from scratch now and then re-doing it in the future).
But the plan for Broadway is to have less lanes, so how is that gonna work? After the Skytrain is done we will have the street becoming narrower and expanding again every 4-5 blocks?

Yes. Basically no parking along newly built station blocks (parking taken up by new widened sidewalks), then parking in the existing bus lane along non-station blocks.

Yup, current plan is for the rest of Broadway to be converted as properties along the blocks are redeveloped.

The continued closure of Cambie lanes on the north side of Broadway is annoying. Traffic would be improved if they opened those up for at least a right turn lane.

There is a right turn lane…

It sure sounds like the two of you doing the complaining about this haven’t even been there.

There's a two-lane pinch point on Cambie SB at 8th. It reduces to two lanes there for about 2/3 of the block, ever since construction started.

That closed portion contains nothing but worker parking now. They could leave that lane open to facilitate right-turning traffic SB --> WB.

I walk by this intersection every day. It's been a ******* shitshow for years.

The whole thing is painfully visible from google maps sat view.

That Google map view shows why the west side of Cambie north of Broadway remain closed off. Traffic is funneled into two lanes, and then a third, short, right turn lane opens up to allow about four cars to make the right turn.

There's no left turn allowed headed south from Cambie on the constrained lanes. On the south side of the intersection there's still a deep hole, with a crane parked in the street, with continuing construction. There are only two southbound traffic lanes past it, so having more capacity on the north side would just lead to vehicles needing to merge. By limiting the street to two lanes north of Broadway, (but with an allowance for the few right turning vehicles), when the light turns green, the majority of the vehicles - those that are heading straight on up Cambie - can proceed easily without any need for lane changing or merging.

Thanks for your written description for those who can't load google maps and look for themselves.

I was going to say this: "What he's trying to say is that the closed northbound lanes don't really reduce capacity as much as you might think since even in the past there was effectively only two through lanes anyway. When the rightmost lane was open it wasn't a through lane because it always held cars waiting for pedestrians to clear the crosswalk before turning right."

And then I went at looked at the historical Google Earth view for June 2019 and by golly there actually were three through lanes PLUS a dedicated right turn lane.

So yeah, capacity is now roughly 2/3 of what it used to be, which is pretty significant at peak times.
