That, and we must also factor in the period when it was built. By the time it was being planned (50’s) Downtown was already well into decline and the last thing people wanted was to feel like they were still in a part of the decaying inner city like back east.

But ironically, (via Wikipedia) “The stadium was originally designed to be expandable to 85,000 seats by expanding the upper decks over the outfield pavilions; the Dodgers have never pursued such a project.”

I always liked seeing this view on sox tv broadcasts. Just felt very 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 "city" to me as a kid.

^ Stateway/Robert Taylor we're certainly "🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵".

Chicago was very good at building public housing.

it was just complete absolute 🞵🞵🞵🞵 at maintaining/managing public housing.

If Reinsdorf pulls a rabbit out of his hat and manages to somehow get his dream ballpark for the sox built as part of The 78 development south of the loop, the Sox could have an epically cool skyline view.

But he's looking for a bazillion dollars of public money, that doesn't exist, to build it, so....... not terribly likely.

I am surprised more people haven't posted about Dodger stadium. The views of the San Gabriel mountains and the palm trees are stunning.

I have to agree with PNC Park. I am working on a more comprehensive photo thread of our spring break trip (the Nats offense was also on spring break last week...) but the views of downtown Pittsburgh are incredible (the phone on my camera is broken so the photos are a bit blurry).

This was the second foul ball we got in as many games (my son and I got a Aaron Judge foul ball at Yankee stadium last year).

I also think the Brooklyn Cyclones, with the view of Coney Island and the Cyclone coaster, is fun (even if not one of the most dramatic views).

Is there a reason why they couldn't place 311 South Wacker in the correct position? /SSPNerdAlert

No it couldn't. The roof was designed to be retractable, but ripped everytime they opened it, so they ended up leaving it closed.

The atmosphere of the Big O was akin to watching a baseball game in a giant toilet bowl.

The only saving grace was those $5 dollar Beer & hotdog days (They were desperate to get people to watch the Expos near the end).

The roof is getting replaced. Again. For the third or fourth time.

Not the best skyline view, IMO.

We almost got this to replace it:

I can't imagine sitting outside in the daytime for three hours in the fiery cauldron of death that is Florida. Maybe as the sun went down.

The Expos, to their credit, signed one of my favorite baseball players of that era. Vladimir Guerrero. Funny how now his son, Vladimir Guerrero Jr, plays for the sole remaining Canadian MLB team, the Toronto Blue Jays.

The view from that dorsal fin or whatever it is must be great, but I don't think it qualifies for the thread

That plan is now apparently dead.

The Rays will be playing in steinbrenner for this year and probably next.

After that, who knows? A re-roofed Tropicana? A brand new stadium plan somewhere else in Tampa Bay? An entirely new city looking for a team like Portland, Austin, Nashville, Charlotte, etc.?

However, the A's new ballpark U/C in Vegas will have a fixed roof.

Fixed roof in Vegas makes sense. It's even 800 degrees in the summer evenings there.

Agreed, there is something unnatural about watching a baseball game indoors but there's nothing natural about Vegas. lol

In the early season, its not bad at all. Especially this year. It has been in the high 70s-low 80s every day so far this season. The nasty weather is coming though. Starting around May it will be in the 90s until October. Night games outside aren't bad, I used to go to the see the Marlins play when they played at whatever the Dolphins stadium was called back then and it was never too bad at night.

I've been to Florida in April. The temps weren't huge, but the humidity was shocking. Even at 75 it would be hard to sit in the sun for long.

st petersburg gets some nice breezes off the ocean. average highs are in the upper 80s even in july/august. https://weatherspark.com/compare/y/9247~...ge-Weather-in-Houston-and-St.-Petersburg

a retractable roof would make sense there IMO (like it does in houston)

well damn, i didn't realize that - i always thought it had a unique design for its time with the attached tower...

also wasn't aware! perhaps being forced to play at an existing open air stadium for the next year or two might make them reconsider the design (if they stay in tampa bay)

It would probably be nice to have the roof open in Vegas for the first 1.5 months and last month of the regular season. But yeah, a retractable roof would be useless from early June through early September
