A PQ majority government is likely in 2026, especially if the Federal Liberals win a majority this year. I wonder what the market betting odds are on a third referendum happening.

The Bloc is a federal party, it's not them who'll ever threaten the existence of the country. At most they can hold the balance of power in Ottawa at times.

The Conservative costed platform is now out. Confirms my decision about how to vote this time around.

I now understand why they waited until today to release it...

Conservative Platform
Summarized by CBC

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is in Vaughan, Ont., detailing his election platform.
  • He is pledging to cut Canada’s deficit by 70 per cent.
  • The platform includes tax and spending cuts, but also projects deficits that will add roughly $100 billion to federal debt over the next four years.
  • The platform does not include a timeline for getting back to a balanced budget.

Liberals would add $225 billion to the federal debt.

My generation is screwed. Thanks Justin.

And to all the people who said PP would cut healthcare despite him saying he wouldnt.... He's keeping it and its in the platform!

"Poilievre faced accusations from his opponents that he’d cut back on some major social programs passed by the previous Liberal government. To that point, the Conservative platform promises to maintain federal health-care transfers, preserve existing dental care coverage, and honour existing deals with the provinces on child care and pharmacare."

So Conservatives add $110B of combined new spending and tax cuts in 4yrs. With only $56B of spending cuts.

So $50B of net new debt. Plus the existing $40B/yr deficit.

For $210B of total new national debt in 4yrs by my napkin math.
Basically the same as Liberals $225B.

What a mess.

The same old tired fear mongering is employed on Poilievre as Harper. Take away women's rights, gay rights and use overeaching DEI policies to shift back to white supremacy. At least with Harper, it wasn't so abundantly clear and the Liberals, in power too long, weren't this populist party that took every opportunity to educate how bad Canada, the confederation, is. That's from the how to build a socialist dictatorship playbook.

Are we a democracy or a monarchy? The Liberal Party needs some humility to get back to being Liberal. Won't happen extending their reign.

Remember - "the budget will balance itself."

I repeat unequivocally, Justin Trudeau was the worst Prime Minister in Canadian history - an economically illiterate, narcissistic performative virtue signaler who delighted in taunting and blaming anybody who was an iota less progressive than he was (about 90% of the population), and who had utter contempt for the high office of Prime Minister, important institutions like the armed forces and complete disdain for his fiduciary responsibilities.

If Carney was not as capable as he seems, and, if Trump had not stuck his arse into Canadian politics, I would absolutely have voted for PP this time around.

These however are not normal times. The liberals do not deserve another chance. Not by a long shot. But, they appear to be the best option given the current circumstances.

My endorsement is one time only. Carney had better not waste this chance he is being given.

Maybe, and this is just me spit balling here, that many Canadians just don't like Pierre Poilievre and his version of the CPC.

I was unaware of the fact that Mark Carney called the Brexit referendum.

Yes, this nails it. I was the same but already feel duped by Carney.

Why could Pierre just not have smashed back to the Trump threats in Dec like a competent leader? It feels like Pierre didn't actually want to win. No instincts or negotiation ability whatsoever. But his domestic econ is spot on.

Whereas why couldn't Carney just commit to pipelines and actual corridors? Scrap the C69, tanker ban, and rest of the restrictive BS, and target 2 month approval times (not 2yr). And forget this socialized housing nonsense.

Then I'd be fine with either of them. Ugh.

My concern now is a Liberal Majority.

A minority would keep them in check (unless its the NDP)

Given that the NDP and LPC voting pools are totally communicating vessels, from a "sound management of govt finances" point of view I'm actually LESS afraid of a Liberal majority (and a nearly dead NDP), than I am of a Liberal minority (which would be held by the nuts by the NDP).

(If there's a realistic scenario with a Carney minority and the NDP having too few MPs to matter, now that'd be fine.)

That's exactly what the country is wrestling with right now.

Liberal Minority means NDP controls the show like they did the 4 years. That's even worse than a Liberal Majority.

Fresh faces in the cabinet appointments will matter greatly too. If Guilbeault and these other parasites like Anand get cabinet positions, bad news. Country will revolt at every instance of old Liberal continuation.

The $18B in new revenue is a head scratcher.
Some of the tax cuts also appear to be underestimated for their actual costs.
Health, dental, pharma and childcare all maintained.
The cuts don't add up.

He did not because he shares many of Trumps core values and stratagies.

They believe their predecessor is incompetent, has turned their country into a failed state and the only solution is to cut taxes, government and lock people up even if it involves taking liberties with people rights.

Trump is far more extreme. Thankfully the Canadian Conservatives would be constrained both by the voters and our constitution.

Lets face reality, oil pipelines to BC tidewater are the only financially viable option. That is the case if we are talking about spending private sector money. In the private sector you go for the lowest cost option. Pipelines east or to a port that frozen for half the year is a non-starter.

BC legal relationship with first nations is different than the rest of Canada. This goes back to before BC joined confederation. The consultation required by C69 would be required for any project even if C69 did not exist.

I would be open to getting rid of the tanker ban as long as adequate funding was provided to spill cleanup and monitoring infrastructure.

We are talking about multi-billion dollar resource projects, that is going to be complex. There is no way anything of that scale can be reviewed in 2 months. The 2 year review is far more realistic.

Yes, agreed Liberal majority is what we need at this point. We need to constrain social spending until we get the new economic infrastructure up and running.

I think Anand was a solid and responsible cabinet minister.

Guilbeault was well intentioned but needed to do a better job of compromise. We need to protect the environment but also to allow for economic growth.

Quebec will decide whether this is a LPC majority or minority. Ontario seems baked in for the Libs to get 75-80 seats based on pretty much every poll I've seen.

So some napkin math where my head is at right now,

Atlantic= 25 LPC, 7 CPC
Quebec= 40 LPC, 25 Bloc, 13 CPC
Ontario= 77 LPC, 41 CPC, 3 NDP
Manitoba= 5 LPC, 8 CPC, 1 NDP
Saskatchewan= 14 CPC
Alberta= 33 CPC, 3 LPC, 1 NDP
BC= 21 LPC, 19 CPC, 3 NDP
Territories= 3 LPC

Total= 174 LPC, 135 CPC, 25 Bloc, 8 NDP

As you can see, LPC right on the edge of majority BUT if Quebec continues to fall into the hands of the Bloc (say LPC only gets 35 seats in Quebec) BOOM, you have 169 LPC seats. So it will really will depend on Quebec. Their polling has shown a 5 point drop from LPC to Bloc post debate. Any more drops, and there won't be a majority.

Both the Liberal and Conservative budget's deficits include Tariffs income....

What if Tariffs don't come?

Separating these is the nuance of leadership.

Some of what Trump is doing is good. DOGE = good, Canada needs that. Raising tax revenue on citizenship = a great idea. Deporting criminal immigrants is also good (to a reasonable limit).

But Trump talking about invading other countries, including Canada, is very bad.

An instinctive leader with balls can separate these for the public. Immediately defending Canada against threats, stopping them from gaining momentum. While also identifying a good idea based on the idea itself, not based on its publisher. But Pierre is a wimp. He was too scared to call out Trump then. He's too scared to use anything published by Trump now. He had outs. But he was too weak and slow to take them.
