Just over a week ago I was called a coward, and that my grandparents would be rolling in their graves, because I support the cons…… of course naturally I stood up to that particular bully, and was hence suspended. But my grandparents would most certainly be rolling in their graves if I didn’t stand up for myself.

Those Liberal bullies voices remind me very much of the America MAGA poison that comes out of their mouths. Bullies are bullies, left wing or right.

For your information, I am a 60 year old gay {not queer} guy and coming out in the 80s during AIDS was no picnic. I remember being labelled everything in the book and someone coming out in this century has no concept of what we went thru.

That, however, does not make a drag queen telling stories at a public library to kids any less offensive. Accepting people of different backgrounds is one thing, allowing actors {not all drag queens are gay} to pretend they represent any group but fellow drag queens is quite another. It's not only highly inappropriate, it is an insult to women and girls. These people who pretend they are women for a laugh are sending the signal that women are just sexual objects who are bitchy, have big boobs, hair, and unintelligent. This is akin to the 1920's Minstrel shows. Use every stereotype in the book and then justifying it by saying "it's all in good fun".

I also am strongly against men competing in women's sports. In fact I don't know any gay people who aren't. It is a completely unfair advantage and will lead to the death of women's sports. I also don't agree with using the bathroom of your choice. These supposed gay rights activists who think they speak for everyone in the LGBT community {like somehow they were voted into office to represent anyone} only focus on how this would effect trans-kids but not at all taking into account that many of the other children could be very uncomfortable with it yet if they, or their parents, say anything against it, they are labelled homo/transphobic.

It's for these reasons that support for LGBT rights are actually on the decline in much of the West including Canada. The original purpose of the gay rights movement was to ensure equality rights but generally make it become a society where it simply doesn't matter. You are as much an ordinary citizen as anyone else. Now with the endless trans-demands, these organization demand they be treated differently and yet are somehow surprised that people, once again, are.

Doady, how is it you need a criminal background check for so many basic jobs in America, but you can be a rapist, fraudster, and perpetual liar and become president?
Because the US constitution doesn't require you to be anything other than over 35, US born and have lived in the US for the past 14 years.

Not only would posting about this issue in the proper subforum be less likely to get you banned, it would also be more likely to get Dylan's attention. As a fellow Conservative voter, he no doubt will sympathize with you and take immediate action to crack on the rampant corrupt moderation practices and make SSP great again.

I have a different take on the drag queen story telling.

Libraries are public places and their use and programs are in most cases parallel to the public education system and not mandatory. Kids are not being forced to participate in any of this.

If a group wants to come and run a story telling program that should be left up to the local board that runs the library and the group to decide. Parents are free to let their kids attend or not.

The idea that the federal or provincial government should step in and decide to write rules on what content should be included in story telling or what type of clothing the story tell wears is also offensive.

I think far to much we have different levels of government interfering with each other. We need clear boundaries and each level is accountable to its voters.

Let the local library board do its job. If the material is offensive the board will decline to include it in their program.

Since the party was formed, the CPC has only had success when the LPC and NDP split the votes in many ridings. That isn't happening this time. You are right that the party needed to shift more towards the centre in order to gain support in areas where they could actually win more seats. PP hurt the party's chances by being too Trump-like and courting the "freedom" convoy people / Maple MAGA.

As for PP, I have already mentioned that this will likely happen and it will be determined on the popular vote:

37% and above: PP stays as leader as his party has strong enough support to win the next election if the Carney Liberals (assuming they win) become less popular.

35-36%: This is the borderline. PP may stay or go depending on how the CPC MPs feel about the results and if PP is an asset to the party.

34% and below: PP won't be leader for much longer.

Interesting closing line to this by the Liberal of all people. I would have a lot more faith in the future if it were true.

In terms of politics, drag queen story hour isn't that relevant for me. It's not an issue I consider when voting (though trans rights, of course, are).

That said, I am comfortable with drag queen story hour. I remember missus asking why don't they read to the homeless or people in prison instead, and Bob the Drag Queen replied, "Most homeless people and prisoners can read."

To me, it's at worst equivalent to having a Disney princess read to your kids. Totally possible to bring your kid there and never once have to even acknowledge it's a man performing as a woman. But some parents want to expose their children to the existence of LGBT people, rip that bandaid off early. Especially male-female couples, particularly if one is bi, as they can't give their kids that exposure at home. And it's optional. You aren't forced to bring your kid there. If you don't want to, don't. The end. People trying to shut these things down are, to me, the equivalent of me protesting Sunday School.

I try to be as evidence-based as possible, so I'd definitely be more worried about leaving my kid unsupervised with Christian clergy or politicians who claim to exemplify/promote "traditional family values." They're statistically the ones diddling youngsters, far more than drag queens.

I think Poilievre will get a large number in the popular vote but the dynamics of this election (collapse of NDP) are against him and the Liberals will win. I hope it's a minority but with all the left adopting an anything but Conservative stance, it's likely to be a majority.

That leaves PP in opposition where he is effective but an election loser is seen as a loser no matter how many votes they get. Right wing populism dies with Trump and by the time four years are up, we'll be ready for a centrist Conservative and a woman who would have the backing of a big electoral machine behind her, wonder who? And a famous name never hurts.

There are diverse opinions within every community. Yours might be more represented amongst your friends and some people of your generation. Who knows. The topic of trans people in sports is completely blown out of proportion considering the relatively minuscule number of cases. In my opinion, most queer people aren’t hardline about it and understand that it is a complex issue. I certainly don’t believe in infringing on the ability of cis women to succeed in their chosen field. The goal should be inclusivity as much as possible while maintaining realistic limitations when that inclusivity creates unfair playing fields for cis women.

As for your opinions on drag queens, I don’t see it that way at all. Most fans of drag are actually women, as well, and I don’t imagine they are blind to some kind of inherent misogyny.

Moving on to bathrooms, the argument in favour of choice is perhaps best made here: https://transequality.org/issues/resourc...g,and%20travel%20outside%20their%20home.

Lastly, I don’t blame marginalized groups for how they are treated. It can be easier to align with the powers that be, though. People are generally motivated to view existing social structures as fair, legitimate, and just, even when they experience injustice, themselves.

Many of the people voting Liberal this time are definitely not leftists.

As for Caroline Mulroney, it's hard to say. She isn't really a big name in Ford's government and you don't see her all that much in the media even though she's in cabinet. But she is a definite possibility.

Don't agree with either of these two comments. I'm friends with two women who were highly involved in literacy programming and those two groups of people you mentioned have great issues with literacy, one of the reasons why they are in the situations they are.

As for the very old tried and true blaming clergy for pedophillia, they are no more prone to it than anybody else. They are in positions of trust which is why you hear about it. The prejudice in the treatment of predatory female teachers on male students is still laughed about in this day and age.

PP's housing plan is all slogan, no solution. Any plan that relies entirely on the private sector to lower housing prices will fail. Like any for-profit company, developers aren't in the business of lowering the price of their product. Shocking, I know. If a project isn't going to meet their pro forma they simply don't build it no matter how much red tape is cut. They sit on the land for decades if they have to. If we're actually serious about solving the housing crisis (PP isn't and neither was Trudeau), the government has to get involved in a direct way like they do in certain European and Asian countries. Endless gifts to developers accomplish nothing.

Democracy shouldn't require much (the American list you just posted is actually longer than it should IMO) because the only qualification should be to earn the trust and the votes of the electorate.

You need more formal qualifications to be a truck driver, an electrician, or a nurse (let alone engineer or medical doctor) than to be Prime Minister of Canada. (Although one can be a truck driver or an electrician in one's twenties or early thirties, so for POTUS you could argue it's slightly closer requirement-wise, as each position has theirs.)

Went to vote today around 1 pm. No lineup at all. Was in and out in under 5 minutes. Chatted with the person working the poll station for a few minutes. He said they had a busy time yesterday with lineup for about an hour but the rest of the day it was in and out. He did say some of the other locations in Victoria had long lines.

Looks to be hit and miss. Wondering what drives those dynamics.

While I was tempted to vote strategically and go NDP or Green. I chose to go with the Liberals instead. Hope the vote splitting does not cause the conservatives to win Victoria. That would be sad.

Just voted. Zero waiting. The place was a couple minutes' walk from my house so the whole thing didn't take long. The longest part was that the staff at the voting station fell in love with my dog and we chatted for a while

Sounds like it has caused a significate increase in purpose build rentals owned by the private sector. As well as as significant increases in new social and co-op housing.

Like the 1970s I think history will find this to have been a period of significant creation of new rental housing. Part of JT legacy.

So calling you out for not voting, despite being passionate about politics the last few years actually helped push you to vote?
