There's quite a lot of outrage about the Chinese seafood tariffs in Atlantic Canada. I'm sure there's lots of outrage about the agricultural tariffs too, no?

Where's the outrage about our 100% tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles?

We went through this about a week or two ago (and 20-30 pages ago).

China has a long history of using these tariffs to manipulate its market. While we don't LIKE those tariffs, they're basically part and parcel of dealing with them economically.

With America, we have a long history of open trade with them, and a long history of them being a strong ally, basically our brother. While they may have done some focused tariffs occasionally (Softwood lumber anyone?), they've generally kept an open economic policy with Canada, until now.

So now that they're throwing these tariffs around willy nilly, it's hurting us a hell of a lot more, AND it's a personal betrayal.

Add on top of that the talk of annexing us, and it's extra salt in the wound; China isn't talking about us becoming a colony after all.

Furthermore, while China-Canada trade is important, Can-Us trade is basically our backbone, so changes to THAT affect us a hell of a lot more than China doing its quarterly roll of the Wheel of Tariffs.

Yes, China has tried and failed at all of that.

Under Harper they signed some deal that lead to closer collaboration. Including having the Chinese military on Canadian soil. Thankfully the Liberals killed that.

Over the past number of years China has tried to manipulate Canada to let one of its corporate executive out of jail. That failed.

While careful monitoring of China is needed. Its not clear they are the greatest threat we face.

More like Chinese Tariffs == the flu; something you get regularly, can try to inoculate against, and annoying when they happen, but mostly accounted for and controllable.

American Tariffs == COVID. A Global pandemic that came out of nowhere, is hard to handle and protect against, and extremely disruptive.

If you are unlucky enough to get the Flu and COVID at the same time, well, you're probably screwed, but most of your attention is going to be spent trying to cope with COVID while you let your normal patterns handle the flu and hope it doesn't also blow up too bad in the meanwhile.

Given that AB is exporting more oil than at any point in its history, it's kinda hard to see this supposed "handicapping". And personally, I don't think you'll see oil exports go down at any point this decade, regardless of who is in charge federally. I also don't think a Conservative government will be able to ignore the Constitution and ram through pipelines through other provinces. So I guess the question is which government you believe will be able to win over other provinces enough for you guys to grow even more.

If autoworkers complained and moaned and Doug Ford went on and on and threatened Canada I'm pretty sure Albertans would tell him to shut it.

Albertans oil unfortantely for the most part other than Canada and the US no one else wants - that is a big problem. Other markets have no capacity to refine it and if we refined it we wouldn't be able to sell it because it would be priced out. The Americans already own lik 70% of the oil sands - you think they'll just let us trade it with China. Those are facts.

Also tired of the narrative that the rest of Canada does nothing for Alberta and that the Liberals are so bad. Since Harper left office - oil production UP by 29% - miracle of miracles... and oh you're welcome.
